British Open 2011 TV Schedule: Day by Day Listings for the 4 Day Event

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

The 2011 edition of the British Open begins on July 14th, and will be held at the Royal St. George's Golf Club.

This will be the 14th time that this wonderful course has hosted the championship. In 1894, it became the first course outside of Scotland to do so.

The last time the British Open was held here was in 2003, when American Ben Curtis won with a score of one-under-par.

It is always difficult to predict what the winning score will be at any British Open, as weather, mostly the wind, plays a huge role. Consider that the previous two British Opens at St. George's were won by Greg Norman in 1993, with a score of 13-under-par, and by Sandy Lyle in 1985, at two-over-par.

The course is a par-70 and will be playing 7,211 yards.

Rory McIlroy is the favorite, as he ran away with the U.S. Open and is familiar with the links style of golf.

We do know that there will be one golfer Rory won't have to worry about.

Tiger Woods has already told the world that his knee has not returned to 100 percent, and he will not be playing in the tournament.

Despite his absence, it is a deep field, and it is set to be a great tournament. There is going to be plenty of coverage for this event, and it starts early for us in the states, so be ready.

Check out the listings below:

  • July 14th: coverage starting at 4 AM EST on ESPN
  • July 15th: coverage starting at 4 AM EST on ESPN
  • July 16th: coverage starting at 7 AM EST on ESPN
  • July 17th: coverage starting at 6 AM EST on ESPN

ESPN's golf coverage is solid, as long as they don't let Chris Berman talk too much. The guy is anything but a golf announcer.

I am not a fan of Berman in any avenue these days. He seems to be a bundle of cliches, bad nicknames, weird sounds and under-prepared commentary. This still kind of works for football and isn't horrible in baseball, but in golf—it is brutal.

His U.S. Open coverage was almost painful to listen to. The only way his commentary would be welcome is if one of his announcing partners yelled "Fore!" every time Berman opened his mouth.
