NFL: Is There a Way Up For These Clubs?

Raider Card AddictOct 30, 2008

Well, looking over the NFL landscape, things look pretty normal. You have one team left undefeated, the AFC west is a mess, and several clubs in the hunt for number one.

Number one for the draft, that it.

In all, there's 7 clubs with 2 or fewer wins in all. 3 of these clubs make up the NFC West, with the 49ers, Seahawks, and Rams, and Oakland in the AFC West.

Kansas City has a single win, while the Lions and Bengals remain winless.

It can't be a pretty picture, but a few things do get mentioned.

First of all, even at 2 wins, these 4 clubs are not dead to the world. The 3 clubs in the NFC West, all remain 2 games behind the Cardnials, who are presently 4-3. In short terms, no one is running away with this division.

AFC West as well, Oakland is one win behind San Diego for 2nd place, and then 2 games back from Denver. Add into the fact Oakland has games against both squads, and San Diego wants some payback for the Hochuli botch-job, it might be fun watching these teams dogfight all the way to the end.

How about the bottom 3 though?

First of all, is Kansas City. Apparently Herman Edwards thought enough of his QBs that are left, to decide against bringing in Duante Culpepper.

Either that, or he didn't want to appear desperate to the league. It's a little past desperate, heading towards oblivion. Right now, Kansas City has had a few bright points, like the win against Denver, and they almost won against the Jets.

Almost.

Secondly, Kansas City has another year to work without Brodie Croyle. Last year they lost him, and struggled to a 4-12 record. Maybe they should have rethought the Glenn Dorsey draft pick.

On to the cellar.

Detroit, now with Kitna gone, has actually shown some life these last couple weeks. Instead of being blown out by 30+ points, they're getting beat by 2, 7 and 8 points.

Dan Orlovsky. a few weeks removed from his end zone running play, has been trying to bring the team back together, even though soon it may not be his job. Detroit has been trying out Duante Culpepper, although at this writing, nothing has been signed. But right now, between Detroit and Cinci, they have the best chance of winning. Why?

Well, the last time they played Minnesota, they lost in Minnesota, by 2 points. I don't know if the Vikings can count on the Lions to be that lax, again.

And out last team....Cinci, has some serious issues.

Carson Palmer, once thought to be the QB solution, isn't supposed to be back until after the bye. By then, will he even have the same timing everyone remembers?

Is it too late to call up Scott Covington?

Ocho Cinco, or the player formerly known as Chad Johnson, is averaging 39 yards a game, has 2 TDs....and is behind T.J. Houshmandzadeh in receptions.

I guess all that talking Chad did in the offseason tired out his body.

Take heart, Bengals fans. You do have one bright spot to look forward to.

At home, your last game, the football gods take pity on you.

You play the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, if the Bengals refuse this offering to win.....don't expect Lewis to be on the sidelines next season.
