J-Lo The Future Of The Lightweight Division... By J-Lo I Mean Joe Lauzon
Being my favorite UFC fighter alongside Anderson "The Spider" Silva, I decided to write an article about UFC lightweight fighter Joe "J-Lo" Lauzon. For a reason still unknown to me, when thinking about the top fighters in the lightweight division, most people don't even think about Joe Lauzon and I'm seriously starting to wonder why?
Born on May 22nd, 1984 in Brockton, Massachussets, Joe Lauzon made one of the biggest impacts in UFC history defeating returning UFC legend "Lil Evil" Jens Pulver in his UFC debut beating him by KO 48 seconds into the fight surprising everybody. He then made an impact on season 5 of TUF defeating Brian Geraghty and Cole Miller before losing in the semi-finals. On TUF, he also met BJ Penn who was his coach and both men became really good friends. After the show, Joe Lauzon actually went to Hawaii to train with BJ Penn and BJ was cornering Joe in his fights.
Joe ended up losing his first and only official UFC fight against Kenny Florian April 2nd, 2008. Since then, he has returned to the octagon and defeated Kyle Bradley by TKO at the beginning of round number 2.
When you ask anybody who they consider to be the best fighters in the lightweight division, names like BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Kenny Florian, Tyson Griffin, Roger Huerta, Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz will be named, still I consider Joe Lauzon better than several of those fighters. Lauzon has lost only to Kenny Florian in the UFC, he won the first round and never got seriously hurt in the fight but he was unable to defend Kenny's strikes so the ref stopped it. Let's face it, there is no shame at all to lose to "Kenflo", I truly believe Joe Lauzon would beat Nate Diaz and Roger Huerta if he ever crossed paths with them.
Joe Lauzon is a very good BJJ fighter, he's still young, he's eager to learn more and more, he's never been past the second round in the UFC. Like Jens Pulver said it on TUF season 5 "This kid is dynamite" and now get ready because when he explodes, alot of people will be surprised. I truly consider Joe Lauzon to be the "Dark Horse" of the lightweight division.
With a friendship like he has with the current UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn, Joe may never challenge for the title while BJ is champion, but with many years of fighting coming up, Lauzon will get his shot and for anybody still doubting, I promise... oh yes, I promise that sooner or later, Joe Lauzon will make an impact as big as J-Lo's ass cheeks (now in this case I really do mean Jennifer Lopez *laughs*)and become the UFC lightweight champion.
