Los Angeles Angels Trade Scenarios: 5 Potential Landing Spots for Jered Weaver
It's getting closer and closer to the time of the baseball season when teams realize they are out of contention for the playoffs and the World Series.
Once that happens, teams begin to try and make trades for the future and sell off some of their assets.
These teams are referred to as "sellers," and many of the trades they make set up teams to make long playoff runs.
The Los Angeles Angels are one of those teams getting closer to becoming sellers, and they have a number of players that contenders would love to trade for.
One of those players, Jered Weaver, is a top notch pitcher and would be a huge addition to any team making a run at the playoffs or World Series.
While the Angels aren't in dire need of moving the pitcher and could keep him for the future, they could get some nice pieces back and be better off for the future.
Atlanta Braves
1 of 5The Atlanta Braves are fighting for a division title with the best team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies and could definitely benefit from another great pitcher.
If the Braves could package together a deal that the Los Angeles Angels would take it could push them over the top and make them favorites to win their division and almost lock them in to a playoff spot.
The Braves will need to add something to battle the Phillies deadly rotation and another high quality pitcher could be just that.
The Braves are currently working with a four-man rotation with the fifth spot usually being spot starts for some of the other pitchers on the roster.
Adding Jered Weaver would fill out their rotation and allow them to move some of that talent to the bullpen, improving that area too.
Cincinnati Reds
2 of 5The Cincinnati Reds are in a dog fight for the central division title and are currently four games out of first.
The first team to make a move out of the contenders in that division could be the team that ends up winning it, and a guy like Jered Weaver could make the difference in a playoff push.
The Reds have limited resources and may not be able to put together a deal good enough to pry Weaver away, but it is worth trying and could help to win them a division.
The National League Central Division is a very winnable division, and a bold trade could push a team over the top to take the crown.
Colorado Rockies
3 of 5The Colorado Rockies have been rumored to be shopping for pitching to turn themselves into a contender, and Jered Weaver could be the perfect fit.
The Rockies pitching staff has been struggling in large part due to Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jimenez having bad years thus far.
The Rockies could Weaver and turn them into the ace of their staff, taking some pressure off of Jimenez and Cook and allowing them to drop in the rotation.
If the Rockies could get the right deal together, it may turn their entire season around and get back to the World Series.
New York Yankees
4 of 5The New York Yankees are always looking to improve and always willing to deal prospects for proven major league talent if it means improving their chances of winning it all.
The Yankees are currently tied for first in the AL East, and that's with only one reliable pitcher, C.C. Sabathia.
The Yankees have a wealth of talent in their minor league system and tons of catching prospects and could easily make a deal for Jered Weaver adding another all star to their rotation.
Two great starters and a murderers' row of a batting order is enough to win a World Series, and the Yankees not only should consider this deal but make it, as soon as possible.
Texas Rangers
5 of 5While the Texas Rangers are the Los Angeles Angels rivals and the team the Angels are chasing for first in the division, they should still consider dealing Jered Weaver to them.
The Angels are not winning a World Series this year and probably won't make the playoffs even if they keep Weaver.
That said, take the best deal possible for Weaver, even if it is from Texas.
If the Angels do choose to go down that path, which they probably won't, this deal is a no-brainier for the Rangers.
Last year the Rangers added another great pitcher midseason, Cliff Lee, and it got them to a World Series.
The Rangers would probably have to over pay because of the division rivalry, but it would all be worth if history repeated itself, like it often does.
