My Top 10 Bleacher Report Writers That Brighten My Sports Days

Samuel Bell JrOct 28, 2008

I must admit this.

I almost feel like I'm at an AA meeting, admitting my addiction. Maybe someone needs to hold a BR Anonymous meeting, for us Bleacher Creatures who can't get enough of "the Report."

As Kanye West once said, "gotta testify, come up in the spot lookin' extra fly, for the day I die, I'ma touch the sky."

There's some writers on this site that do more than that. Writers who grace us with their presence and writing skills and could have a site on their own.

A fraternity of writers who rival conglomerates like ESPN with their talent. There are many talented writers on this site, certainly more than 10, but I can't name everyone.

I aspire for this site to be mentioned in the sports world as completely legitimate and cutting-edge. I thank guys like Zander Freund for giving me such an opportunity, and I've reveled in it writing many articles as I can churn out.

I find myself thinking of what my next article will be before I'm done with the current one, and that itself is amazing to be a part of. Just as I like to write, I like to see what my favorite writers and other good writers have came up with everyday.

Sometimes an article is so good that I don't even know what to say in a comment. Things like "great read" and "good article" are overused, and feel like the piece is being sold short.

This site may not be perfect, but then again what is?

We have a chance to compete in contests, edit and perfect each others work, and write about what we want to. Heck, we even have a chance being published on sites such as Foxsports.com.

I feel a camaraderie with many writers on the site, and it's great. Many writers who otherwise would've been restricted in their talents or may not know how to harness them get a shot on this site.

Gaining experience and constructive criticism has proved to be very helpful for me, and I'm sure many others, too. I have to give thanks for the opportunity and spotlight the writers that I hope to be reading in the future being successful.

-Ron Johnson

I have enjoyed Ron's articles for a long time now. I remember when he enlisted as a fan on my page, and it was a great feeling. His ability to write about many different sports and do it well is a great talent to have. He can get a job in many places because many sports writers don't start off as sports writers. The ones who do don't always start with the sport they choose, and I can see Ron being very successful.

-Ryan Alberti

I love the "Just Saying, Is All..." series that Ryan puts out regularly. The language used is very comprehensive and upscale. Reading Ryan's articles get the mind thinking, and sometimes he has me reaching for my dictionary, which means that I'm learning something. The Josh Howard article was really thought provoking and was one of those pieces that you're not sure how to comment on because it was that good. Keep it up, Ryan.

-Erick Blasco

I go to Erick's articles a lot to get NBA perspective. I used to be an avid NBA contributor, until I got into the NFL season writing contest. I've only written one NBA article in the last couple of months, and I found myself reading all of Erick's division preview articles. Many of his points I agreed on, especially what he said about the dominance of Utah Jazz PG Deron Williams.

-Gray Ghost

I'm not the biggest college football fan, but I have to pay attention when I read Gray's work. He's very insightful and has a unique way of explaining points. Lots of passion reflected in his lines, and that is very refreshing. It shows that it's really something he cares about, and I respect that. I can't wait for the Georgia-Florida matchup, because after reading what he wrote, I'm hyped myself! And yes, Gray, Knowshon is making a name for himself pretty well.

-Zander Freund

I have to show love for one of the site's great creators, but it's not just Zander's work ethic on this site that deserve's praise. His writing does, too. The "Move Over Barry Bonds-That's Why I Play In Center Field, Part 1" was my favorite of the series. Way to show love to Ken Griffey Jr. He doesn't get enough. The way he went in depth with each player was worth the reading time, something everyone should check out.

-Ryan Droege

Okay, Ryan may not write much, but he has helped me immensely, editing my articles very well and giving nice comments as he did. One cannot understand how much good feedback can help a person along.

There were times that I wanted to leave Bleacher Report because I didn't know if I was being received at all. Ryan would edit an article, and leave great feedback on it, which would make me feel good about it.

Thanks a lot, Ryan, I appreciate it. Oh, and I loved this quote: "Honestly, when I first read this story, I began frowning like a 17-year old guy at a Backstreet Boys concert. I was so not excited."

-BabyTate

Once again, I'm not the HUGEST college football fan, but I have to admit that BabyTate can make articles great to read. Very insightful and introspective, Tate keeps me reading his articles and actually knowing some things about the college game. I watch the big games during the season and read Tate, Lisa Horne, and Gray Ghost's articles. Example of BabyTate's creativity: "The 11 Best 11's of College Football." 'Nuff said.

-Angel Navedo

I like the way Angel writes articles. Straight to the point, period. No beating around the tree or candy-coating anything. This quote is true and straight to the point: "The NFL doesn't belong to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning anymore." That's right, it doesn't, and the Titans proved that Monday night. Navedo is definitely a good writer who knows the NFL and the New York Jets, or Brett's for now.

-Shaun Ahmad

Shaun is a really entertaining writer who also tell's it like it is. If he disagrees with you, he's not afraid to let you know in a respectful way. He'll also back what he's saying with facts and good opinion. I read his power rankings all of the time, and he does a great job of putting teams where they should be.

He's the kind of writer that you read and think, "This guy would be fun to debate with." Shaun also responds to many of his comments, which creates a great debate type of environment.

-Lisa Horne

I know Lisa's the No. 1 front page writer and she gets a lot of praise, but that isn't without reason, people. Lisa should be writing for ESPN right now, and I kind of wonder why she isn't. Very talented, smart, and charismatic, Lisa writes articles that just flat out garner attention. Her latest, "Emails We Know Exist Somewhere," I had to have read five times.

"Dear Dad-

STFU!

Skip"

I laughed my backside off of that one! Lisa also responds to her commenter's with great comments, and is the quintessential "Bleacher Creature." Lisa also happens to be my favorite Bleacher Report writer. Now if I can get her to write more NFL articles...(LOL)

Those are the writers that I check for when I'm on the site, and I find to be brilliant. Of course, I couldn't mention everyone, but let's keep putting out the good stuff everyone and make Bleacher Report even better!
