The Dark Future Of Formula One (Fantasy)

Billy SextonOct 27, 2008

The year is 2014. Most of you are unaware as to what has occurred in Formula One since the 2008 Chinese Grand Prix.

Well, let me fill you in. At the Brazilian Grand Prix, Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton were disqualified from the championship and the race for trying to take each other out and seriously putting the lives of others at risk.

The 2007 Champion, Kimi Raikkonen, was gifted the championship for a second year in a row. All hell broke loose at Ferrari. Massa said it was Raikkonen's fault that he didn't win the championship, saying he should have been a good teammate and kept Lewis at bay.  This resulted in Stefano Domenicali sacking the two drivers for unsporting behavior.

Massa went to BMW whilst Raikkonen and his manager brought their team (Raikkonen Robertson Racing) into F1.

Since then, Formula One has gone back to the Schumacher days. Teammates have become optional, but the only team to take advantage of is RRR; they're the only team not running two cars. Raikkonen has dominated and has tied with Michael Schumacher on seven world championships. Now in 2014, he wants to break the "unbeatable" record.

But there are a few teams and drivers who stand in his way:

  • Scuderia Ferrari: The team Raikkonen won two championships with want to put an end to his dominance. The Maranello outfit has signed McLaren refugees Fernando Alonso and Heikki Kovalainen.
  • McLaren-Mercedes: Ron Dennis and Norbert Haug are now pleased to have both a British and German driver in the team. Should-have-been 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is partnered by old friend Nico Rosberg.
  • BMW Sauber: Robert Kubica has remained loyal to Dr Mario Theissan, whilst Felipe Massa has pushed Nick Heidfeld out of the team. Can Hamilton's 2008 nemesis put an end to Raikkonen's reign?
  • Renault: Flavio Briatore was unable to hold onto Alonso forever and sacked Piquet after an equally disappointing 2009 season. Roman Grosjean and Lucas Di Grassi have been with the team since 2010.
  • Toyota: Jarno Trulli retired in 2009, leaving Glock to be partnered by Piquet. Glock scored one win in 2011 at his home Grand Prix in Germany.
  • Red Bull: Sebastien Vettel has been a main threat to Kimi Raikkonen in the past two years. Partnered by former test driver Sebastien Buemi, Red Bull is a driving force in F1.
  • Toro Rosso: Gerhard Berger had no choice but to let Bourdais go and brought in 2008 tester Takuma Sato to partner 2009 GP2 champion Bruno Senna.
  • Williams: With Rosberg leaving for McLaren and Kazuki Nakajima leaving to go to America, Frank Williams' most recent signings are Josh Hill, son of 1996 champion Damon Hill, and Jenson Button.
  • Honda: After moving up the grid at a steady pace, Honda got rid of Button and Barrichello to sign karting wonder and 2013 GP2 champion Will Stevens and bring in former test driver Anthony Davidson. Can an all British team knock Raikkonen off the top spot?
  • Force India: Adrian Sutil has remained loyal and it has rewarded him. He beat Raikkonen in the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix to take his first win, avenging his 2008 crash. Vijay Mallya has signed Indian driver Karun Chandok to partner the German.

Will any of these drivers beat Raikkonen to the championship? Or will Kimi rewrite the record books?
