Nicklas Bendtner: Arsenal Ready to Let Go of the Best Striker in the World?
Even as Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that a player worth £20 million is not even good enough to lace Luka Modric's boots, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems set to let go of the self-proclaimed "best striker in the world" for as little as £9 million!
The man in question is none other than Nicklas Bendtner!
The Gunners have been unable to provide the confident Danish forward with enough starting opportunities, and his morale has suffered tremendously as a result.
It doesn't come as a surprise to me at all that a player who has such great faith and confidence in his abilities is bound to feel rather disgruntled with his current situation. He once received a self-confidence rating that exceeded the scale in a test carried by an Arsenal psychologist! Recently, he made his feelings public by announcing that he was 100% sure that he wanted to leave Arsenal.
His agent believes that he is worth around £12 million, and I can not comprehend his thinking at all. But, then again, his agent is his father, and all parents do tend to see their children in a brighter light as compared to the rest of the world, so I'll give him that one.
It has just been reported that Benfica have made an offer of around £7 million, and that surely makes more sense to me.
The sale of Bendtner would be a blessing in disguise for the Gunners. Though he has managed to score a couple of crucial goals for Arsenal during his stay, he is very wasteful on the ball and seems to have stagnated as a player.
The void created by the sale of Bendtner would most probably be filled by Lille's Gervinho who looks set to make his much-awaited switch from the French domestic champions to the north London outfit.
Gervinho, though not as tall as Bendtner, is much more skillful on the ball than the Dane could ever hope to be. He possesses great speed, and his fluid game could act as the catalyst that the Gunners need to make the big step forward and convert a side full of potential into a true Championship-winning team.
