Jets-Chiefs: Gang Green Escapes Herm's Latest Revenge, 28-24
Another unusual warm October day saw a usual New York Jets performance. After an unconvincing win against the Bengals in Week Six and then the embarrassment that was last week in Oakland, the Jets looked to bounce back against Herm Edwards and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The team was overflowing with confidence after scoring a TD on their opening drive for the first time this season. Brett Favre would connect with Leon Washington to cap off a 10 play, 72-yard drive, putting the Jets up 7-0.
They would get the chance to add to that lead, but Jay Feely, who had not missed a FG since the bashing of the Cardinals in Week Four, missed a 36-yarder, giving Jets fans that all familiar feeling of how the rest of the game would pan out.
Those feelings were put to the test when the Chiefs got on the board thanks to a Tyler Thigpen pass to Tony Gonzalez for a 19-yard score. Thigpen, who is the third-string QB, looked like a seasoned vet throughout the game in his playcalling and scrambling. He would finish with 280 yards, 20 yards rushing, two TDs, and a QB rating 110.9.
Washington would get on the board again, this time rushing for a 60-yard score and putting the Jets up 14-7. However, the Chiefs would answer right before the interval after getting a play reversed by the officials and ruling Mark Bradley inbounds when he caught the 11-yard pass from Thigpen.
At halftime, the Jets honored the 1968 Super Bowl Team, where a sober Joe Namath would thank fans for being so patient throughout the years and show off the illustrious championship trophy.
The Chiefs, who looked more inspired out of the gate (most likely because it's as close as they'll get to a Super bowl anytime soon), would go up 17-14 on a Connor Barth 30-yard field goal. After both teams couldn’t get anything done in their next possessions, forcing a three and out both times, the Jets would regain the lead.
Thomas Jones would rush for a one-yard score, capping off a 72-yard drive and swinging the momentum in favor of Gang Green. The score would be 21-17 heading into the fourth quarter.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
After forcing the Chiefs' three and out again, the Jets would bring the ball down to the eight-yard line in a drive which looked to seal the game. All of that hope quickly vanished (along with the lead) when Favre was picked off for a 91-yard return with a little under six minutes to go.
Thankfully, the defense, which showed up when it mattered, would force the Chiefs three and out yet again. Washington would return the punt for 37-yards along with giving punter Steve Weatherford a short piggy-back ride.
This would set up a signature game-winning drive by Favre, who would connect with three different receivers before finding Laveranues Coles for a 15-yard score. Coles, who wasn’t expected to be in the game due to a concussion suffered last week, made a fantastic one-handed catch, sending the fans into a euphoric celebration with a minute remaining.
The defense would again come through and force the Chiefs to turnover the ball, sealing the victory for Gang Green.
The Jets, now 4-3, head to Buffalo for a pivotal matchup with the Bills, who suffered their second lost of the season earlier today to the Dolphins.
The Good: While it wasn’t pretty, the Jets got another win, tying their mark from last season in just eight weeks. The defense, despite giving up almost 300 yards, came up big when it mattered and gave the Chiefs a fit on third downs, along with sacking Thigpen four times.
The Bad: While it didn’t matter so much this time around, the missed FG attempt dampens the productivity the special teams have made of the past few weeks.
The Ugly: Favre’s three interceptions, each of them uglier than their first caused much disarray. Had this been a good team, this game would have probably been a loss and Jets would be facing a lot of heat on why they invested in the future Hall of Famer.
Gameball: Last week I said Leon Washington should see more of the ball and after today, Washington finished with 107 return yards, 67 rushing yards, 34 receiving yards, and two TDs, making me feel very smart and satisfied.
