NBA Draft 2011: Is Jimmer Fredette Better for Utah Than Kemba Walker?

Ro ShiellJun 20, 2011

"It was great to be able to go against him," Jimmer Fredette told the Associated Press. "That's what you want. You want to play against the best, at least I do. I want to go out there and compete against the best players."

Fredette knows that his main competitor is either Kemba Walker or Brandon Knight. The Utah Jazz pick third and 12th in the 2011 draft.

There is a chance that Fredette may end up with with the Jazz.

"I just think it would be a great fit for me basketball-wise," Fredette said. "I fit into the system. They need a guy who can stretch the floor, get into a lane, get other guys involved and that plays right into my strengths."

Fredette's assessment of the Jazz is spot on. They have Al Jefferson, who just had a stellar season.

Derrick Favors the the third draft pick from the 2010 draft. Gordon Hayward is due for a breakout season and Paul Millsap is a beast in the low post.

This team was just a mere seven wins away from a playoff berth. With the right player, they can be the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies that beat top-seeded San Antonio Spurs

OK, that may be a stretch because Spurs were arguably the weakest No. 1 seed ever.

Fredette knows that if he wants to land in the best position of any point guard, he has to take on Knight and Walker. He challenged Knight to a duel in Utah, but that was promptly ignored. Now he has had a turn with Walker, who it seems is not afraid of competing against anyone.

"That's what it's all about," Walker told Yahoo! Sports. "We're all here for jobs. It's like interviews. We're going to go hard and try to impress. I think we both did a great job at impressing these guys today."

If Utah wants Walker, they will have to take him with the third pick because he will not be around for the 12th pick. As for Fredette, there is a slim chance that he will be available around the 12th pick.

Unlike Kyrie Irving, who is putting all his eggs in one basket, Walker has been working out for several teams including Sacramento, Toronto, Detroit and Charlotte.

After the workout, the Jazz were very tight-lipped about their discoveries but they thought both players represented themselves well.
