2012 NFL Draft Preview: Which Washington Huskies Could Make a Splash?

Carlos SandovalJun 6, 2011

The 2012 NFL Draft is stacked, and NFL Draftniks nationwide have already begun to speculate the order in which these NFL prospects might go.

What's a bit dry is the number of Washington Huskies projected to be drafted. In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Huskies put up two NFL draftees in Jake Locker and Mason Foster in the first and third rounds, respectively.

In 2012, the Huskies will be lucky to get one player drafted.

But Washington does have a few prospects worth looking at that could have a chance to sneak into the NFL Draft next season.

Here are all of them.

Click away.

Chris Polk, RB

1 of 3

The Washington Huskies' backfield was beastly last season, finishing with 172 yards per game, which was good for top 40 in the nation.

Chris Polk headed the ground game last year, finishing with just more than 1,400 yards off 260 touches.

What's awesome about this kid is his team-best nine scores in 2010.

Consider this too: In Washington's six losses last season, Polk had 18 touches or less. When the Huskies won, Polk had significantly more touches, averaging nearly 24 carries.

Who's Needy?

The Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers could use Polk's skills should Daniel Thomas falter in South Beach and Ryan Mathews sees the injured reserve list.

Devin Aguilar, WR

Devin Aguilar didn't get much of a chance to strut his stuff in 2010; he only caught about 28 tosses, but he averaged nearly 13 yards per catch.

Aguilar has solid, professional wideout acceleration, so that's not something teams should worry about in next year's draft.

He should get quite a few more reps as the Huskies' second option behind lead receiver Jermaine Kearse. Given his talents, we could see something special from the kid.

If he can make the most out of his time as a starter, Aguilar might sneak into the 2012 NFL Draft.

Jermaine Kearse, WR

This is the Washington Huskies' best chance of putting a player up on the 2012 NFL Draft board.

Jermaine Kearse was beastly last season. As the lead receiver in 2010 (and should-be lead receiver in 2011), Kearse put up terrific numbers. Just 63 balls were thrown his way, but in just 63 catches, Kearse piled up more than 1,000 yards for an average of nearly 17 yards per catch.

Oh, and let's not forget about his big-play ability that lets him score so often.

Kearse hit the end zone 12 times last season, a team best in Washington.

I'm not sure how much of this is Jake Locker's influence, even though Locker didn't have a great season. Regardless, Kearse has proven he's worthy of the title of "Best Player on the Washington Huskies."

Hopefully, NFL teams with late draft picks see this too.
