NFL Trade Rumors: 5 Top-Tier Players Who Will Be Traded to a Better/Worse Team
Every athlete wants to be happy, yet every athlete also wants to win. By this logic, every NFL player should be asking to be traded to New England, Green Bay, or Pittsburgh.
Sometimes a team just isn't the right fit for a certain player, and this causes distraction on and off the field, which detriments every team's ultimate goal of winning a championship.
When this lockout business is settled—fingers crossed—expect a lot of trades this off season.
Here are five trades where the player will go to a significantly better or worse team than they are currently signed to.
(DT) Albert Haynesworth
1 of 5
I want Albert Haynesworth's job. Sign a $100 million contract and then put together a 13 tackle, 2.5 sack season, while playing only eight games.
I won't personally delve into how selfish and classless Haynesworth is as a player, but he is clearly a dominant defensive tackle who many teams would love on their defensive front seven.
Washington signed him to a massive contract and he clearly is not working there, so they must rid themselves of the personal and financial burden that is Albert Haynesworth.
Where He Might Go:
Moving up, with the Philadelphia Eagles.
(QB) Kyle Orton
2 of 5
Kyle Orton has quietly been one of the most efficient and productive quarterbacks in his two seasons with the Denver Broncos. He has passed for just under 4,000 yards in both those seasons and held a passer rating of about 87 in both seasons.
The Broncos drafted college-wunderkind Tim Tebow in 2010, however, and with the state of rebuild the Broncos are in, Tebow is the future in Denver.
Kyle Orton is too valuable for Denver to keep as a backup, and they will likely ship him off in favor of a few good draft picks in next year's draft.
Where He Might Go:
Moving slightly up, to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals are not a much better team then the Broncos, but Orton is a cold-weather quarterback who could flourish with the newly signed wide receiver A.J. Green. The Bengals have more potential for immediate success than Denver, despite dismal defenses on both squads.
(RB) Brandon Jacobs
3 of 5
Brandon Jacobs has made it clear that he wants out of New York.
He is clearly the less-preferred back to Ahmad Bradshaw, and was openly angered at his drop-off in touches this past season.
Jacobs is a strong, powerful, and big runner than can work excellently in a tandem with a speedy back (like Bradshaw), yet since it seems he is not content in New York, he will head to another squad looking to improve on their running game.
Where He Might Go:
Moving down, to the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins have an aging Ricky Williams and a free-agent Ronnie Brown as their running backs. Two seasons ago these guys were a deadly tandem, but both missed time this season due to injury and they are no longer the dual threat they once were.
Jacobs could provide the power in the backfield the Dolphins need to take the weight off their sub-par passing game. Unfortunately for Jacobs, Miami is a much worse team than the New York Giants.
(QB) Kevin Kolb
4 of 5
Probably the most coveted quarterback in the trade talk this season, Kevin Kolb is a hot commodity for the many teams who want and need a quarterback.
So many rumors have emerged about where Kolb may go; Minnesota, Arizona, San Francisco, Cincinnati, and Miami are all options
No one is even convinced that the Philadelphia Eagles will trade Kolb, who was, if you remember, signed with the intention to be their franchise quarterback. Then a man named Michael Vick came along.
Where He Might Go:
Moving down, to the Arizona Cardinals.
All the teams where Kolb might head are worse than the Eagles, but at least he will get to play a position other than Michael Vick's backup.
(WR) Chad Ochocinco
5 of 5
Last but not least, the man who will never let himself be forgotten, Chad Ochocinco.
After an amazing tenure in Cincinnati, he, along with a few other Bengals, are done with their team and its city. He is only 33, so he still has some life for a receiver, yet he is coming off one of his worst statistical seasons ever.
Expect a team to sign him to no more than a two-year-deal, yet at this point in Ochocinco's career, this season is screaming comeback.
Where He Might Go:
Moving WAY up, to the New England Patriots.
The Patriots sign a once dominant wide receiver who is coming off a bad season with a team he doesn't like: Randy Moss deja vu, anyone?
