Tiger Woods Talks but Does Anyone Really Believe Him?

Tom EdringtonMay 24, 2011

Tiger Woods came out from underneath his Cloak of Mystery Tuesday.

The Recovering One took the G-7 up to Philly and did a little Q&A for his tournament, the AT&T at Aronimink.

Now prior to his little nooner with the lads from ESPN.com and anyone else who wanted to show up, Eldrick came up with this preposterous proposal in a tweet of all things:  "Said he donate $1 million to his foundation if no one asked about the leg."

Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. Someone should have lashed him 20 times with a wet noodle.

That million went out the window with the first question. Later, Woods realizing how ridiculous it would look if he didn't, went ahead and announced he would indeed donate $1 million to his foundation.

Good Tiger.

Now, before we proceed further, this brief announcement for aspiring writers, reporters or what-have-you in today's journalist world—DO YOU DARN HOMEWORK!

Some fool stood up there on national television and asked how Tiger felt about falling to No. 10 in the world?

Number TEN?

You'd think that goof would at least know where Tiger is ranked prior to asking something like that.

Last we checked, he was Joe Namath— No. 12.

That's okay, Woods was equally uninformed regarding what he referred to as the "senior tour" which is really the Champions Tour. Woody thinks they still have carts out there. Someone needs to tell Tiger they've taken the carts away out there and the old guys have to walk like everyone else.

Enough of that, back to good old Wobbly Knee, er, Woods.

He gave us these gems:

He's been in a boot and on crutches, trying to take the pressure off his knee and oh yes, his back hurts too.

He's suffered some atrophy in his leg.

For his recovery, "I'd rather take it slow and see how it progresses."

He called his physical state "borderline" before the Players, after he told everyone he was good to go.

"Memorial is doubtful," he said of his possible appearance at Jack Nicklaus' event in two weeks.

Then he gave this gem about competition these days on the PGA Tour:

"The tour is deeper. It's become more difficult to win......it is what it is."

Ah, there it was, Tiger's "go-to" explanation for everything.

It is what it is.

Which leads us to the U.S. Open.

"All my docs say I should be good to go," Woods proclaimed.

Should be.

Notice the "should."

Well hopefully he will be.

Things are so much more interesting with Tiger around.

Even if it's tough to believe him.
