TNA Wrestling: Bobby Roode May Have Struck Gold with Ric Flair on IMPACT

David LevinMay 20, 2011

Bobby Roode of TNA IMPACT wrestling has stepped his game up with phenomenal microphone skills and even more impressive matches in recent weeks.

Roode, one half of Beer Money, Inc., with James Storm, are part of the Fortune stable along with AJ Styles, Chris Daniels and Kazarian.

All five are embattled in a bitter feud with Hulk Hogan’s cast of goons in Immortal and were all injured last night on television, leaving questions about their roles in other upcoming shows and pay-per-view events.

Roode was called out at the beginning of the show by none other than Ric Flair, and when the two finally met in the squared-circle to “talk” things out, there was magic.

Flair challenged Roode, who could be making a major push to be a headliner in the not so distant future.

It was reported James Storm suffered a concussion in the opening dance of the show when Immortal and Fortune battled with members of the X-Division. This obviously leaves a door open for Roode to walk through to singles stardom.

“I don’t want to do this, Ric,” Roode told the aging—and fading— superstar after he was questioned why he did not finish the job from Sacrifice when  both factions battled in a NWA-War Games like slug fest. It was Roode who made Flair tap out from an arm bar.

“There is no one in the locker room that respects you more than I do,” Roode continued.

The confrontation left Roode battling Flair again from being challenged. It was pure Flair genius.

Even though he cannot wrestle like he used to, Flair is one of the best interviews and the most intense psychologists there are in the sport.

It shows Flair can still work with younger budding stars and reach perfection. Only one thing—the confrontation between Roode and Flair left the younger superstar injured by bully Ray and other members of Immortal.

The scenario is much like other wrestlers that Flair has worked with in the past and found a pot of gold. In the late 1970s Flair did this with an unknown Rick Steamboat and the marriage was one of the best things to ever happen to the business.

In the mid 1980s, Flair helped a Greek God in Lex Luger get the push he needed when he joined the Horsemen. Nikita Koloff got the same run when he battled Flair for gold, and Sting would not have been the champion he was if Flair had not worked with him to make him the Icon.

Now, with the growth of IMPACT, it is Roode’s turn to have some of that gold rub off on him.
