Raiders-Jets: Oakland Scores an Upset in Oakland!
Well, for those of you who thought it would be a typical game...Not a chance.
Oakland, playing at home, in front of a rabid, sold-out crowd, upset the New York Jets, 16-13 in overtime.
This game was not the average blowout, or the high-scoring affair that people bought into, but more of a strong, defensive stand by the Raiders, and a couple of organized, well-assembled drives, giving the Raiders a win. In between these drives, however, it was an ugly game, with a nice finish.

In the game, first off, the Jets got on the board, with an opening-drive field goal of 40 yards. Oakland, meanwhile, tied the game back up at 3-3, with a Janikowski kick from 29 yards out.
The next two highlights, came about on back-to-back drives in the second quarter. Favre led the Jets deep into Oakland territory, but when throwing into the end zone, the Raiders picked him off. Going the other way, Oakland had good progress, but then tried a 40-yard kick, with 4:09 left in the game. Janikowski clanged the ball off the right upright, leaving the game tied.
With the Raiders starting the second half with control, they put together their first good drive, culminating in a touchdown by Javon Walker from eight yards out—his with the Raiders. To that end, the Raiders would hold this lead until the Jets would tie the game, 10-10, in the fourth quarter with eight minutes remaining.
Oakland, would mount another drive, giving Janikowski another kick, converting a 37 yarder, with 3:01 remaining....and the crowd going wild.
But this game, as it turns out, was far from over.
The Jets started the first drive, but had it ended quickly by DeAngelo Hall, with 2:25 remaining. Oakland, needing one first down, to end it. It didn't happen, and Oakland kicked back to the Jets.
The Jets, quickly, and without timeouts, went back to Oakland's 34-yard line, and tried a first kick...clanging it off the goal post.
But hold on...Cable called a timeout!
AHHHHHH!
The next kick sailed through and gave us a tie game, with six seconds to play.
On to overtime.
The Jets, winning the toss, started out getting to the 41-yard line before kicking back to Oakland. Oakland, on their first possession, would get to the 24-yard line, before being forced to kick back. The Jets, on their second drive, managed only six yards, being stifled by Oakland.
Oakland's second drive? One yard.
The Jets, then running out of steam, and time, managed to get 20 yards downfield, before punting at the 4:44, giving Oakland a starting position of Oakland's 19-yard line.
From here, Oakland seemed to feed off the crowd. The defense, for most of the overtime, had done its job, and it was up to Russell and the offense to come together.
Six plays later and Oakland's Janikowski nailed a 57 yarder, in 2:06 left in overtime.
With that, Oakland pulled off an upset that few believed would happen. Congrats guys, you earned it!
