Miami University of Hamilton: Athletics Making Strides for Excellence
Are you a student-athlete looking to continue your sport of interest at the collegiate level? Or maybe you’re new at Miami University of Hamilton and are looking for a fun way to get involved and meet new friends.
If so, the MUH athletic department is something to look into.
The Miami Hamilton Harriers offer athletics for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s softball, golf, men’s and women’s tennis and baseball, and compete in the ORCC (Ohio Regional Campus Conference).
And for those that were blessed with a little less talent than others (like me), MUH offers athletic competition strictly against other people on campus. This typically consists of flag football, basketball and volleyball leagues as well as tennis, badminton and ping pong.
If there is enough interest in another activity, a new recreational sport can always be added.
The men’s basketball team made history in the 2010-11 season, earning the 10th and final spot in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) National Tournament in Pittsburgh, compiling a 15-9 overall record.
The men’s tennis team won the ORCC Championship, the women’s tennis team got second place and the softball team was runner up in the ORCC State Tournament. The Harrier baseball team won the ORCC League Championship and had an 11-1 conference record.
Chris Settle, the Miami University of Hamilton athletic director and soon-to-be women’s head basketball coach, believes if the athletic program wants to keep moving forward, it needs a lot more support.
“Hopefully we can look forward to more championships next year and a lot more visibility for our programs," said Settle. “I think we are an important part of the campus community and could be to the city and surrounding areas as well if we could only get more exposure.”
So students, we’ve got the winning tradition down; now it’s time for everyone to get involved. Whether you’re an athlete, a cheerleader, a mascot, or the die-hard fan that brings 15 friends to a game, you’re a big part of the MUH athletics’ success. So what’re you waiting for?
And remember, Harriers are scarier.
