Cricket: 2011 County Championship Division One, Round Three
Holders Nottinghamshire went back to the top of the Division 1 table after winning against Worcestershire, who have lost all their three games this season, while Lancashire and Warwickshire lost their 100 percent records.
Nottinghamshire scrambled past Worcestershire by three wickets at Trent Bridge.
The away side batted first and made 315, thanks to Matthew Pardoe's 74 and Damien Wright's 65, while Andre Adams took 5-73 and Samit Patel 3-31.
Nottinghamshire responded with 382, as Paul Franks hit 82 and Patel 81. Alan Richardson's 5-98 kept his side in the game.
Alexei Kervezee's 128 and Gareth Andrew's 67 got Worcestershire to 328 in their second innings, as Franks took 3-49 and Luke Fletcher 3-76.
Chasing 266, the home side were wobbling slightly on 83-3, but 84 from Alex Hales helped see them home by three wickets, and they became the only Division 1 side with a 100 percent record.
Durham are second but have played a game more than Nottinghamshire, having already been defeated and held to a draw. However, in this round they beat Warwickshire by eight wickets.
Warwickshire piled on 429 in their first innings, William Porterfield making 87, Jim Troughton 76 and Chris Woakes 70 not out. Ruel Braithwaite's 5-75 made him the pick of the bowlers.
Durham were in a bit of trouble at 222-5, but recovered to post 465 thanks to centuries from Ian Blackwell (125) and Micheal Di Venuto (113). Boyd Rankin's 3-98 the best of the bowlers.
Warwickshire collapsed second time around to 137 with Tim Ambrose's 51 the only real innings of note, as Graham Onions (4-28) and Scott Borthwick (4-25) ripped through the line-up.
Chasing 102, Durham lost two wickets, but Borthwick's 48 led them home to their second win of the season.
Lancashire are third after losing their 100 percent start to the season with a draw against Sussex.
The Red Rose county were always in control of the game as they posted 590 in their first innings thanks to 57 extras.
Gareth Cross hit a first-class best of 125, Luke Procter made 89 and Karl Brown 88, while Naved-ul-Hasan claimed 3-95.
Lancashire looked on course for a win when they bowled the hosts out for 290, despite Murray Goodwin's 113. Glen Chapple (4-63) and Gary Keedy (4-101) took four wickets each.
Sussex were asked to follow-on and a opening partnership of 169 and a unbroken final wicket partnership of 90 runs led Sussex to 459-9 before the game was declared a draw.
Ed Joyce hit 140 and Naved Arif 100, not out as Sussex fought back to leave themselves with one win, one draw and one defeat this season.
Somerset got their campaign back on track with their first win as they beat bottom of the table side Hampshire by nine wickets.
Hampshire collapsed from 154-1 to 285 all out, as no-one capitalized on a good start from Liam Dawson (91) and Jimmy Adams (74), as the opening five batsmen were dismissed caught by Craig Kieswetter.
Charl Willoughby (4-40) and Gemaal Hussain (4-83) claimed four wickets each.
Marcus Trescothick (227) guided Somerset to 513 in their first innings, helped by Jos Buttler (61), Kieswetter (58) and 65 extras. Danny Briggs's 5-79 was a highlight for the home side.
Again, Hampshire made a fantastic start but from 181-0, they were all out for 341. Dawson smashed 169 and Adams 73, but no other batsmen scored above 20, as Peter Trego took 4-74.
Chasing 114, Somerset lost just one wicket in their chase and picked up their first victory of the season, halting a run of two-inning defeats and sent Hampshire bottom with one draw and two defeats.
The next round of fixtures sees Hampshire host Sussex, Nottinghamshire face Yorkshire, Somerset play Worcestershire and Warwickshire are at home to Lancashire from May 4.
