20 Fantasy Football Studs and Duds for Week Six

October 14, 2008

This week’s Team Studs and Team Duds have some new faces and some that have changed teams.  Let’s have a look at the Top Dog’s and the Dog’s that laid down in fantasy football for Week Six…

Rams Seahawks Football
Mississippi Football

Team Stud

QB: Drew Brees, Saints

Rumor had it that Drew Brees and the Saints were going to get back Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey for this week's game against the Raiders.  Well, neither of them played and Brees played worthy of the first half rear kissing they gave him on the Monday Night Football broadcast (did you notice that last week?).  320 yards and three TD’s.

RB: Marion Barber III, Cowboys

After a couple so-so weeks Barber is back Baby!  Only 45 yards on the ground but he got 11 receptions for 128 yards and a TD in the air.  There has been some talk about Barber being the new L.T. and with play like that, where they find a way to get him the ball, he could be in coming years.  Now that we see Tony Romo sidelined for a while we could see Barber fed the ball more.

RB: Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars

Finally!  There has been one of those little name signs sitting in front of this seat all season reserved for Jones-Drew.  Only his second big game of the season, he tore up the Broncos defense for two TD’s on 125 yards, with another 23 in the air.  He gets hot just in time for the bye week.

WR: Andre Johnson, Texans

The second week in a row on team stud for Andre Johnson.  He could very well be turning into that No.1 WR that a lot of people drafted him as.  This week he turned ten catches into 178 yards and a TD.  Guess what Johnson owners?  Now he gets the Lions next week!

WR: Braylon Edwards, Browns

Edwards only had five receptions but he made them count against a tough Giants defense.  154 yards and a TD.  Plus, a two point conversion.  It’s been a long season for Edwards owners.  His previous best came in a game where he pulled in a TD on just 22 yards.  Hopefully this high draft pick of a WR and the Browns can ride some momentum off this win.

TE: Marcedes Lewis, Jaguars

Lewis was supposed to be somewhat of a sleeper that last couple years…and sleep he has.  This week he helps that cause with one of his three catches being for a TD.  If you drafted him it was hopefully as a bye week filler…and hopefully it was last weeks bye you were filling.

DT/ST: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs did it again on the defensive side of the ball.  Highlighted by three INT’s and a TD, the Bucs held the Panthers to just three points.  We are starting to see some old names we have not seen in a while occupying this spot week after week.

Individual Defensive Players (IDP)

LB: Channing Crowder, Dolphins

A week after totaling just two assists, Crowder may have tricked some owners into benching him in Week Six.  He puts together his top game of the season and first time Team Stud appearance on nine tackles, four assists, and two passes defensed.

DL: Kevin Williams, Vikings

It’s not often that a defensive tackle is the top dog for IDP lineman.  Eight tackles and four sacks make sure that Kevin Williams is in the top spot this week.  Don’t look for it to happen often, in fact he almost doubled any previous score this season (Week Three was a little more than half).  If your league requires you start a DT and you have Williams, kudos for you.

DB:Tim Jennings, Colts

Playing in place of Kelvin Hayden, Jennings logged ten tackles, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and an INT.  Because he was starting people were saying that Derek Mason’s stock should rise in that game.  Not bad kid!

Team Dud

QB: Jake Delhomme, Panthers

242 yards, yeah that is all good.  But I bet it hurt if you were a Jake owner and you watched three INT’s and no TD’s going with that 242.  On the upside for you Delhomme owners..he gets to play the Saints next.

RB: Joseph Addai, Colts

Two attempts for three yards before hammy issues against the Ravens.  Injuries happen but you likely drafted this guy pretty damn high if you have him.  A top half of the draft first rounder should have more than 126 yards rushing for you by now.  Could go down as the bust of the year at RB.

RB: Edgerrin James, Cardinals

We don’t expect a lot out of Edge anymore.  We want a serviceable, hopefully, RB2.  We do however expect more than 29 yards on the ground.  He is losing more and more carries to Tim Hightower by the week, especially around the goal line.  Sucks for those that looked at the numbers from last year and how he was fed the ball when they drafted him.

WR: Terrell Owens, Cowboys

Four receptions for 36 yards.  Yikes.  Lucky, and unlucky for Owens, that will be overshadowed by the fact that Tony Romo will not be throwing him the ball for the next month.  Brad Johnson will be the guy in Dallas for a while.  On the bright side they get St. Louis first.

WR: Santana Moss, Redskins

Boooooo.  Second straight week for Moss on Team Dud.  We thought things would pick up with the Redskins playing the Rams but not so.  Ya know, the Redskins just may be one of those teams that could use more than one threat in the passing game for defenses to look at.  Maybe some draft picks need to step up.

TE: Dallas Clark, Colts

Not a good season for Clark owners and not a good game last week.  Only two catches for 17 yards.  As we see Marvin Harrison look a little like his old self, we are reminded that Clark is not always needed.  Maybe next week, huh?

DT/ST: New York Giants

They were bound to drop the ball in a game this season and drop the ball the Giants defense did this week against the Browns.  Allowing 454 net yards and 35 points…ouch.  In some leagues that was worth negative points if your league allows them.  Had to bite to go into the Monday night game ahead by a point with just the Giants D to play…and lose.

Individual Defensive Players (IDP)

LB: Lance Briggs, Bears

There were no real terrible performances from the linebackers this week.  But…since we said last week that Briggs was the Bears LB to have and he only posted four tackles, we will go with him this week.  He is still a Top 10 LB right now and far ahead of Urlacher in the IDP game.

DL: John Abraham, Falcons

Going into the week Abraham was one of the top IDP defensive lineman.  Only putting out two tackles on the week had to be a bummer for the owners that have been rolling in the hard to get DL points.

DB: Antoine Winfield, Vikings

After his monster week last week against the Saints, owners had to be pretty damned happy to have Winfield on their roster.  This week, not so much.  He was a must start but logged only two tackles in his worst performance yet.  No need to fret Winfield owners.  Everyone has bad weeks.  He is still a Top Three IDP defensive back in scoring even with that game.
