Derrick Rose to Be Named MVP: How Tweet It Is to His Teammate!
Derrick Rose is to be named the NBA's MVP, according to his teammate, CJ Watson. Watson may have spilled the news early when he tweeted his congratulations to his teammate.
""Congrats to drose on winning the MVP he's played unbelievable this season!!! now just need tibs to win coach of the yr."
"
Derrick Rose will become the youngest player in NBA history to be named the league's MVP, and the first to have his announcement leaked by teammate tweet.
If tradition holds Watson's tweet could be trusted, because it would be awarded in all likelihood in the first week of May before a home playoff game, and the Bulls will be hosting Atlanta this week. It's not impossible that Monday will have David Stern in attendance for the Bulls home game.
Needless to say the Bulls don't need any extra motivation for this Monday's game, but I have a felling his teammates won't be taking anything for granted or coming out flat if Rose is getting the MVP award.
While Rose's candidacy drew a lot of criticism form the advanced stat crowds in the NBA, it is ironic that many of the justifications can be found for him in some advanced stats. The attention he draws when he has the ball is so great that his teammates are actually eight percent more likely to make a shot when he's passed them the ball.
Since many people define MVP as "making your teammates better" it would seem that by that definition Rose's case is pretty solid. Rose also had some pretty impressive numbers. He will continue the tradition since the merger as the third player to score 2,000 points and dish 600 assists to win the MVP. Previously, Michael Jordan and LeBron James won the award when accomplishing the same feat.
Rose also became only the second player in NBA history to have a usage percentage of over 30 percent, an assist percentage of over 35 percent, a turnover percentage below 15 percent and less than 30 percent of his field goals to be assisted. Essentially what that all comes down to meaning is that an enormous portion of the Chicago Bulls offense, roughly 45 percent, was generated by Rose.
Furthermore his clutch time performances were the best in the NBA, as he averaged 47.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 9.8 assists per 48 clutch time minutes.
The debate of whether or not he should win is over. The electric young star of the Chicago Bulls is going to be announced the MVP of the NBA for 2011. Somehow though, I get the feeling that he won't be thinking to hard on it until the season is over. The man who said at the beginning of the season "Why can't I be MVP" is now asking "Why can't we be NBA Champions?"
He won't be content until that question has the same answer.
