5 Potential Trade Partners for Miami Dolphins, Focusing on Lineman.
The Miami Dolphins are looking for trade partners.
Tony Sparano needs a second round pick, period. However, they cannot trade a pick for next year. If anything the Fins need to start gathering fourth, fifth, and sixth round picks for the draft next year.
There are teams who need to move up because they are one or two key players away from making another run at a Super Bowl.
However, it will probably mean that the Dolphins will have to sacrifice the spot in the third round (instead of having the 15th pick in the third round, they will have to move back to the 20s).
I've identified five teams who are legitimately interested in moving up because, I believe, there will be a run on offensive linemen midway through the first round. Most would argue that the Dolphins don't need an offensive tackle and the top-tier playoffs teams need them badly.
I've put together some trade packages which make a lot of sense for both teams, a win-win situation for each side.
So, here we go.
The Indianapolis Colts
1 of 5
Last year the Colts wanted to draft a tackle. There will be a run on tackles before the Colts are set to pick at 22.
Nate Solder is highly rumored to be targeted by the Colts. A great fit for Peyton Manning. The Colts move up because the Patriots are also interested in Solder. Peyton gets a new contract and a new left tackle.
Here's the package:
The Colts give:
Their 22nd pick, Round 1.
Their 21st pick, Round 2.
The Dolphins give:
15th pick, Round 1
Swap third round picks (21st for 15th).
Philadelphia Eagles
2 of 5
The Eagles decided correctly to keep Michael Vick. Now they need to protect him. Whether it's by drafting Mike Pouncey or an offensive tackle, they need to make a move on his behalf or he'll be scrambling for his life.
If Mike Pouncey is on the board, it would be a great fit because Pouncey has such extensive experience with scrambling quarterbacks. If Gabe Carimi or Nate Solder are still available, it would help also.
The Dolphins are in a great spot if there are specific linemen available.
The Eagles give
Their first round, pick 23.
Their secnd round, pick 22.
Swapping the fourth round picks, Philly's seventh pick for Miami's 14th.
Miami gives
Their first round, pick 15
Swapping of fourth round picks.
Chicago Bears
3 of 5
The Bears gave up a league leading 56 sacks. This team is also looking for upgrades along the offensive live.
This kind of move will give the Dolphins a second pick for this year, but a fourth round for the 2012 draft.
The Bearsdon't need quantity, they need specific quality players. One gets the feeling that if Gabe Carimi, Nate Solder or Mike Pouncey is still on the board, Miami's pick will receive the attention the Dolphins are hoping for.
Bears give:
2011 first round, 29th pick
2011 second round, 30th pick
2012 fourth round
Dolphins give:
1. 2011 first round, 15th pick
Pittsburgh Steelers
4 of 5
The Steelers are interested in upgrading on their offensive line. They need to stabilize a shaky offensive line. The Steelers are in need of tackles. The 15th pick is a great place for the Steelers to land, especially if Gabe Carimi is available. This trade package will land a draft pick for next year.
Steelers give:
2011 first round, 31th pick
2011 second round, 31th pick
2012 third round pick
Dolphins give:
2011 first round, 15th pick
This is also a win-win deal. The Steelers need linemen to protect Ben Roethlisberger. If Pouncey is available, the reuniting the Pouncey Bros. will be a great deal.
New York Giants
5 of 5
The Giants have a center who has been in the NFL for 12 years. This line is not the same as is was during the Super Bowl run. They ran the ball well, but they did not pass it like they could. Since the Patriots are also in the market for linemen, and everyone knows the Dolphins want to trade down, the Giants would make a good trade partner.
Mike Pouncey becomes more valuable to the Dolphins if he falls to them.
The Giants give:
2011 first round, 19th pick
2011 second round, 20th pick
The Dolphins give:
2011 first round, 15th pick
I believe that every team at the top of the draft needs to protect their quarterbacks. All of them are at a place where trading up makes a lot of sense.
