Mitch's Week Seven College Football Picks: Part Two
It's always nice when we get off to a good start, and we're 1-0 already this week.
It was all Troy early and often last night as we nailed the Tuesday night game, which I don't think I could have been much more adamant about than I was in yesterday's video.
While we have a winning record so far against the spread this season, we still have a little work to do if we want to spend the last few weekends immersed in the comfort zone. SO let's get right into it and look at some more of this week's games.
Ball State -16 at Western Kentucky (Saturday, Oct. 11, 7 EST): 2 Units
Western Kentucky is a team I've been dialed in on all season, and I have a perfect winning record in the games I have picked which they have been a part of. Ball State is another team we have been on the mark with all season as well, so this is a nice matchup in my book.
While I couldn't touch Virginia Tech and their sometimes anemic offense laying four TDs against WKU, I have no problem laying significantly less than that against one of the better offenses in the country in Ball State.
Since the Hilltoppers don't have a lot of D-I experience, they don't have any trends except for their 1-2-1 mark against the spread this year. Ball State is a perfect 5-0 against the number, and there are a few more impressive things to look at.
Ball State has the number 12 scoring offense in the country, averaging 39.7 points per game, and is 11th in yards per game average at 472.3 yards per game. They'll be facing a less than average defense as WKU is ranked 77th in points allowed (27 per game) and 69th in yards allowed at 364.2 yards per game.
Things don't look much better when WKU has the ball, as Ball State is 27th in the country in scoring defense (16.8 points per game) and 58th in yards allowed at 346.7 yards per game. They shouldn't be tested much as the Hilltoppers are 94th in scoring offense at 20.5 points per game and a very poor 117th in yards gained at a paltry 263.8 yards per game.
I have been all over Ball State all year and against WKU, and I see no reason to mess with a winning formula here.
