Vitali Klitschko Will KO "Granite Chin" Adamek Within 7 Rounds This Fall
Former WBC world light heavyweight champion “Granite Chin” Tomasz Adamek earned a unanimous decision victory over “The Clones Colossus” Kevin McBride Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Due to his decisive triumph, Adamek is now officially slated to meet WBC heavyweight champion “Dr. Iron Fist” Vitali Klitschko September 10 in “Granite Chin’s” native country of Poland.
McBride (35-9-1, 29 KOs), a native of Ireland who currently resides in Dorchester and trains in Brockton, gained worldwide fame when he earned a sixth round TKO triumph over “Iron” Mike Tyson in June 2005.
Ultimately, McBride’s humiliating demolition of Tyson (50-6-0-2, 44 KOs) ended the future Hall of Famer’s career in the squared circle.
After struggling with booze and enduring four consecutive losses, McBride, 37, beat Franklin Egobi by split decision this past October to gain another opportunity to perform in a glamorous bout.
McBride is 6'6" and he tips the scales at approximately 270 pounds.
The Irishman is an adequate pugilist.
However, the Dorchester resident was specifically selected to scrap Adamek (44-1, 28 KOs) because his size is comparable to Klitschko’s.
Adamek, 34, is also a past IBF, IBO and The Ring Magazine cruiserweight titlist.
Adamek suffered his only defeat as a professional against “Bad” Chad Dawson (29-1-0-1, 17 KOs) by unanimous decision in February 2007.
Since that loss, Adamek has won an impressive 13 consecutive prizefights.
Adamek’s an aggressive boxer who has consistently proven he can withstand powerful blows.
Nevertheless, the Pole has never confronted a man of the elder Klitschko’s caliber.
Klitschko (42-2, 38 KOs), who as an accomplished kickboxer amassed a sterling mark of 34-1 with 22 knockouts, is an extremely tough Ukrainian. His ring prowess cannot be questioned, which cannot be said for the blemishes on his record.
In April 2000, “Dr. Iron Fist” easily outclassed Chris Byrd (40-6-1, 22 KOs) for nine rounds before he was forced to quit on his stool due to a torn rotator cuff he suffered during the clash.
In June 2003, Vitali was beating one of the greatest heavyweight champions ever, Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs), after six rounds of captivating action.
Unfortunately—and justifiably—the referee halted the contest prior to the start of round seven and awarded Lewis the victory due to a drastically severe gash over Vitali’s left eye.
Hence, Vitali Klitschko has never been genuinely trumped as a pro.
Vitali has not once been knocked to the canvas in a professional contest and he owns the highest knockout percentage (95) of any heavyweight in history.
Adamek indeed does own a “Granite Chin” and he can sustain a powerful blow.
Still, Klitschko will render Adamek defenseless on the canvas within seven rounds when they face each other in approximately five months.
Essentially, Tomasz Adamek is a solid scrapper who is simply inferior to an all-time legend like Vitali Klitschko.
