Brock Lesnar Video: Watch Lesnar's Appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
Brock Lesnar appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to discuss his book Death Clutch and the new season of The Ultimate Fighter, where Lesnar will be a judge.
It got me to thinking: how does someone whose made it his life’s work to physically dominate others have more personality and seem more at ease than Tiger Woods did when he was on Fallon?
Sure, Lesnar isn’t going through a humiliating personal nightmare and his exploits haven’t been the fodder for late-night comics and tabloids for months, but nevertheless Tiger appeared as if he was waiting for his execution, and Brock seemed friendly and personable.
Then it dawned on me: pro wrestling.
No, this isn’t a column about the virtues of pro wrestling, but Lesnar is a man who has benefited from the interaction that WWE wrestlers must have with their fans.
Vince McMahon makes his boys parade around like circus ponies for the masses, while golf is happy if they get Tiger to give the middle finger to a fan, because at least they shared a moment.
Brock has had to spend time with his fans, promoting events, signing autographs. He’s had to learn how to smile, tell a story or two, do press shows like Jimmy Fallon and learn how to look entertained when someone plays the six degrees of separation game with him.
“Hey Brock, so check this: my girlfriend knows this guy who owns a car dealership, and that guy used to work with a guy who knew this guy Bobby who used to do maintenance for WWE after you left, but he knew guys that knew you. They said you were really great.”
Yes, WWE prepared him for such fun appearances like Jimmy Fallon.
Brock has a little fun with himself and lets Fallon have some fun, too. We are used to seeing him dominate people, but last night we got to see him have a little fun, too. And be human.
Tiger should take notes.
