UFN 24 Fight Card: Predicting the KO, Submission and Fight of the Night Winners

Sean SmithMar 25, 2011

At UFC Fight Night 24, rising light heavyweight prospect Phil Davis will meet one of the biggest names in the sport in Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. While this fight gives Davis the opportunity to prove himself against a fighter with a wealth of experience, it is also an immensely important fight for Nogueira, who needs a win to remain relevant in the light heavyweight title picture.

Also, Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson will meet in the card's co-main event. After being knocked out by Carlos Condit in his last fight, Hardy is looking to rebound and get back on track for another title shot. Meanwhile, Anthony Johnson will try to re-introduce himself to UFC fans after a year-long absence from the Octagon.

The rest of the card for UFC Fight Night 24 is littered with talent and potential excitement. Here are the fighters that are most likely to walk away with bonus checks for their performances on Saturday night.

Submission of the Night: John Hathaway

1 of 3

In both of his fights with the UFC, Kris McCray has been stopped with a submission. Submission defense is a clear hole in McCray's game that the more experienced and more talented John Hathaway should be able to take advantage.

Although Hathaway has not yet won a fight by submission in the UFC, he has been fighting competition at a much higher level than McCray since beating Thomas Egan in his UFC debut.

Look for Hathaway to soften his opponent up with ground-and-pound before McCray is forced to give up his back and succumb to a rear-naked choke.

Knockout of the Night: Johny Hendricks

2 of 3

Because of his collegiate background in the sport, some still view Johny Hendricks as a one-dimensional wrestler. The power that Hendricks showed in technical knockouts of Amir Sadollah and Charlie Brenneman suggests otherwise, though. In fact, a majority of Hendricks' nine professional wins have come by knockout.

Hendricks' opponent, T.J. Waldburger, has shown a suspect chin in the past, having been knocked out in four of his five losses. Furthermore, Waldburger has a dangerous arsenal of submissions on the ground, so Hendricks will want to keep this fight standing.

Eventually, Hendricks is bound to test Waldburger's chin in this fight. The result will most likely be a knockout win for Hendricks and a bonus check for the Knockout of the Night.

Fight of the Night: Leonard Garcia vs. Chan Sung Jung

3 of 3

At WEC 48, Leonard Garcia and Chan Sung Jung battled it out in a slugfest that was awarded Fight of the Year honors. Although they may sacrifice technique at times, neither of these fighters leave anything in the cage when they fight.

After their last epic clash, which Garcia won in a controversial split decision, it is hard to imagine that a rematch between these two fighters would not produce more excitement for viewers.

If not another Fight of the Year performance, Garcia and Jung should be able to at least earn Fight of the Night honors.
