Detroit and St. Louis Have Had Better Fantasy Days

Alex LapeniaOct 1, 2008

Is it worth to have anybody from Detroit on your team?  How about St. Louis?

Besides the obvious of Steven Jackson, and Tory Holt on the Rams, and Detroit's Calvin Johnson, and the halfback tandem of Rudi Johnson/Kevin Smith.  Is there anyone worthy of a draft pick in your fantasy league?  Maybe the kickers, because the offense just can't get the job done.

Let's face it Detroit, Jon Kitna won't throw for 4000 yards again, and he won't throw 18 TD's, and if his trend continues he won't throw as many interceptions, as he's on pace for throwing 16 - he has 5 - surprisingly though, this may not mean that Calvin Johnson's numbers will go down.  Johnson caught 4 TD's last year and this year he already has half of that going into week 5.  He'll probably get you around 800-1000 yards this year, but if you are scared of Kitna it's probably a sell-high time.

With the passing game slowly deteriorating look for veteran Rudi Johnson and rookie Kevin Smith to possibly split the carries right down the middle, and rack up some points.  Kevin Smith going into week 5 has 155 total yards and 1 rushing TD, while Rudi Johnson has 147 total yards and 1 receiving TD.  Neither have proven their fantasy worth but are "capable" of being a decent replacement if your regular goes down, and please note that the word capable is used very loosely.

The Lions defense isn't worth picking up as they've given up the 4th amount of points in the league in-front of the Raiders, Jets, Broncos, and Rams.

Oh St. Louis, you're players used to be fantasy Gods back when you were the "Greatest show on turf" now you've possibly become the worst team in the league, no joke.  Steven Jackson may be the only bright spot in this dump but it all depends on his mentality as the Rams could easily end up like the 2007 Dolphins, the only difference is they may lose every game.  If the Rams continue to lose, Steven Jackson may call it quits, what superstar wants to hurt himself on a team that won't even be in contention of a wild card spot?  Beware Jackson owners, he is a moderate sell right now and you can probably get a straight up trade for Steve Slaton on Texas, or another mid level running back.

The passing game here is a nightmare, Marc Bulger is benched and Trent Green is taking over the offense.  Bulger, had a decrease in fantasy production last year as his TD's went down, his passing yards went down, and his interceptions went up and this year is no exception.  He's been benched by both coaches this year and has been replaced by Trent Green, and no offense to Trent but he can't turn this team around, he's just not young enough anymore, and he probably should of retired last year.

The Rams receiving corp. will definitely suffer this year, as the benching of Marc Bulger did not go well with former pro-bowler Tory Holt.  If Holt and Green can't bond look for a disastrous fall-out, look to trade Holt he's worth at least two mid level receivers.

The defense is a whole new level of disastrous, horrible rush defense, horrible pass defense, the only bright spot about the Rams D is if you have players playing against the Rams.  They aren't even worth looking at the list, if you're a commissioner just cross them off the list and tell people they are "NA" for "Not Active"
