UFC News: Jon Jones Willing to Fake Injury To Avoid a Fight with Rashad Evans?
After his UFC 128 victory last Saturday, Jon Jones will now face his former teammate, Rashad Evans.
But a year ago Jones seemed reluctant and not keen to the idea of facing Evans in a match, even if a title were on the line.
In an interview with MMAScraps Radio, Pat Barry (yes, that Pat Barry) asked Jones about fighting a teammate, to which Jones said, "I’m against it, the only reason being is I’m a Jackson fighter."
Jones trains at Greg Jackson's camp and use to train with Evans and Keith Jardine, both fighters he said he would avoid even if it meant faking an injury.
"I just think there are lots of ways around it. You know, you could fake injuries. You could do anything. I mean, there’s just so many ways around it, you know? But before I joined the team that was the first conversation we had. It was just about friendship," Jones said.
The Jackson camp has been blasted by media and fans alike for their sense of brotherhood. Even UFC president Dana White had something to say about it.
"Don't ever forget that this is a business...the more good guys Greg Jackson has in his camp, the more money they make...and if you create this atmosphere 'hey we're all family, we're all friends', then nobody's going anywhere," White said in an interview with Ariel Helwani.
But now the two will fight. Earlier this month Jones went back on what he had said in the MMAScarps Radio interview and said he would in fact fight Evans.
"I respect Dana White a lot and if that's what he absolutely wanted to happen, then, you know, I guess that's what would have to happen," Jones told Ariel Helwani.
Evans now doesn't take kindly to that interview comparing Jones to one of the most notorious backstabbers in human history, Judas.
"I mean it's one thing to say something in an interview but the least you could have picked up the phone and been like, 'man I did an interview today and they kind of put me on the spot with a rough question and I answered it this way.' At least give me the heads up so that way I know and not look at it if he's Judas or something," Evans told Bloody Elbow's Duane Finley.
The fight between these two seems to be gaining a lot of steam. It could be just to hype the fight or things could have just become super real.
