Mark Sanchez vs. Tim Tebow: Haters and Fans Resemble Bieber Fever
The NFL has some pretty respectable fans. Unlike some insane NBA fans, our fans tend to understand their teams' faults, know what their respective teams need, and don't hyperbolically hype their favorite players (I'm looking at you, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James fans).
Here at Bleacher Report, any article having to do with The Denver Broncos' Tim Tebow—and isn't crap, in terms of quality of content—will almost certainly garner ten comments. That's sort of the reason I'm writing this, dear reader, but not really.
That's because the entrance of Tim Tebow into the NFL garnered some crazy fandom and haterade. Tim Tebow is our LeBron James—you have your crazy, obsessed fans who claim he is easily the greatest QB in the league, while you also have the equally crazy, obsessed naysayers who clap with every incompletion Tebow throws.
And then there's the other guy who garners a ton of praise or scrutiny: Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets.
Look at the NFL message-boards, you guys. They're filled with "Is Mark Sanchez complete trash?" and "Should Mark Sanchez be deported?" Then turn on ESPN during the NFL season (if there will ever be one). You're most likely hearing about how Mark Sanchez is the next Tom Brady, except 100 times better.
Of course, these massive amounts of haters and fans mirror the other polarizing public figures, namely Justin Bieber who—depending who you're speaking to—is the greatest artist of all time, or a complete sissy.
And while I can totally go into polarizing figures as part of the sports culture, and how it mirrors popular culture, I won't.
Rather, I'm here to point out that, even here, on Bleacher Report, you're getting the majority of NFL fans having some sort of opinion on Tim Tebow or Mark Sanchez.
Me? I have no opinion. Because while both show tons of promise, yet have a ton of obvious flaws, I do realize that these kids are young. Mark Sanchez is heading into his third year, while Tebow just finished up his rookie campaign. Let both guys develop. It's easy to say that both QBs' ceilings is pretty friggin' high.
Mark Sanchez has awesome pocket presence, a strong arm and great accuracy, but can't compose himself for crap, and can be detrimental to your team if he makes just one mistake.
Tim Tebow has all the intangibles you can ask for, has a history of winning, and does a lot with his work ethic; however, his vision needs a ton of improvement and his accuracy may hurt him, for now.
Notice something? Both are showing promise that great, young players show in their first couple of years, while both also are rough around the issues, and need to work out some major flaws in their game. One doesn't suck, and one isn't elite. Not yet.
So remember this. And remember: Justin Bieber can be compared to any sport. Seriously.
