UFC 128 Results: Shogun Vs. Jones Live Results and Analysis

Dale De SouzaMar 19, 2011

Six weeks ago, you couldn't have paid me to believe that the very first UFC Light Heavyweight title defense of PRIDE legend Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, arguably one of the greatest Light Heavyweight in Mixed Martial Arts, was not going to come against "Suga" Rashad Evans.

If you had told me that Jonathan D. Jones—the man you know as Jonny "Bones" Jones—was going to get offered his crack at Shogun immediately after defeating Ryan "Darth" Bader, I'd have gone against my own personal code and flamed you out, essentially calling you the R-rated version of an ignorant piece of trash.

Alas, an injured knee, unknown to even us here at B/R MMA, was announced to have gotten a victory over Evans in training and to the shock of many, Jones was offered the crack at Shogun.

The injury Evans suffered has set the stage for what you will see tonight live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey—about an hour and 25 minutes from Seaside Heights where eight really tan people have taken over in about the last couple of years.

Sorry, Jersey Shore, but the real action is going down live in Newark as Jones tries to pry the UFC Light-Heavyweight crown from Shogun.

Also featured is the first of two monumental moments that fans of the WEC have been waiting impatiently for, as "The California Kid" Urijah Faber looks to defeat inaugural WEC Bantamweight kingpin Eddie Wineland.

Rounding out the card are two clashes involving the Miller Brothers, Dan and Jim, as Dan looks to put the Middleweight dreams—and UFC career— of Nate "The Great" Marquardt in jeopardy, while Jim looks to serve as the rocky road on which "The Prince of Persia" Kamal Shalorus must walk as the Persian standout looks to open the eyes of UFC fans that have been anticipating his debut for months now.

Finally, Brendan Schaub looks to ascend further in the UFC Heavyweight ranks, but to reach "the mix," he must defeat "The Head Kick Legend" himself, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.

So if you aren't watching this live on Pay-per-view—or a sports bar—then sit back, crack open some beer and enjoy this live coverage of UFC 128 brought to you in part by Yours Truly, whose pleasure it is to give you the 411 on this event with play-by-play coverage of each fight as it happens!
