View from Kingsmeadow, Volume 32: It's Kidderminster Harrowing
Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon were struggling to get their act together in the month of March, and with Crawley Town taking the ascent after a long wait, the Dons needed to get right against Kidderminster Harriers.
Once again, the Dons would come in wounded and would have to rely on their depth to get a result.
"Starting with an update on injuries for Saturday, Sammy Hatton and Fraser Franks will definitely be out," Brown said. "Sammy was not making any progress at all from his ankle injury, so we arranged for him to have a steroid injection in the ankle and he ought to be able to resume training some time next week.
"Fraser damaged his medial ligaments on Saturday at Grimsby and is making steady if unspectacular progress. Christian Jolley also misses the Kidderminster game owing to suffering from concussion at Grimsby; it isn't wise to rush such injuries.
"Gareth Gwillim has a calf strain but should resume training tomorrow, while Ismail Yakubu has made remarkable recovery from his collar bone injury and could be in the frame for a return against Crawley next week.
"Luke Moore will also resume training tomorrow with the hope that he will be available on Saturday. Also on a positive note, both Lee Minshull and Sammy Moore came through 60 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday and are both itching for their first starts for some time."
The Dons brass had the opportunity to preview their opponent on Tuesday against the Red Devils.
"The management team had the luxury of watching Kidderminster play Crawley on Tuesday night in what was a very fast and exciting game," Brown said, "even though it ended 0-0. Both sides worked extremely hard and although Kidderminster could have nicked it at the end, I think a draw was a fair result."
And just like against Grimsby, the lack of form from the Wombles led to their demise at Kingsmeadow.
In spite of an 82nd-minute goal from Lee Minshull, Wimbledon shot themselves in the foot by being two goals down late en route to a 2-1 defeat.
This March may as well be a month to forget for Terry Brown's crew if they don't get their act together on Friday against Crawley.
Kickoff is scheduled for March 18 at 2:45 p.m. ET.
