Left Leg, Nursing Home: Mirko Cro Cop Needs to Retire

Vince CareyMar 10, 2011

There's a scene in Pulp Fiction where Jules Winfield is telling Vincent Vega that he's getting out of the gangster business because they had just witnessed a miracle.

I'm hoping Mirko Cro Cop wakes up on March 20th and sees the Virgin Mary in his bowl of Fruity Pebbles. Maybe it will convince him to hang up his gloves.

Win or lose at UFC 128, the clock has run out on Cro Cop's MMA career. From the moment he entered the UFC's Octagon, he has been a shell of his former self, unable to pull the trigger on his patented high kicks and too afraid to engage in fear of being knocked out.

Brendan Schaub has made headlines saying he was going to show Cro Cop the respect he deserves by going at him and looking for a knockout. If he walks the walk, it could be an early night for the Pride superstar.

It may seem like I'm overreacting, after all Cro Cop did go 2-1 in 2010 right?

The problem is a win over Anthony Perosh, who was fighting on short notice, did little to nothing to change the perception that Cro Cop was a little washed up.

Then came his "BIG" win over Pat Barry at UFC 115. After getting knocked down more times than the lead singer of Chumbawamba in the first round, Cro Cop eventually submitted a striker with a broken hand and a broken foot. Should I be impressed yet?

You have to admire Cro Cop for stepping in on short notice to fight Frank Mir at UFC 119, but that's the only thing to even be considered good about that fight. After 14 minutes of staring at each other and inactivity against the cage, Mir knocked out the Croatian Sensation with a knee in one of the worst main events in UFC history.

Hopefully we see the "Old Cro Cop" put on a vintage performance at UFC 128 and he can walk out on top. Even a loss in a slugfest where he gets his mojo back for 15 minutes would be worth the $50 we spend on UFC events.

Either way, it's time for an MMA legend to step away from the Octagon, take a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame, and leave us with memories of him standing over an opponent and not the other way around.
