Golden State Warriors vs Boston: Celtics Win Fourth Straight, Jeff Green Arrives

Richard HurdMar 4, 2011

In his first three games in a Celtics' uniform, Jeff Green had a total of 18 points. In tonight's effort, Green outdid those efforts, putting in 21 against the Warriors. Green scored more points in the second quarter, 13, than in any previous game.

While the Warriors were never able to gain a lead in the game, they also were never out of the game. Behind Monta Ellis, who dropped a game high 41, the Warriors were always in shouting distance of the Celtics before a late-game run at the win.

The first-half saw an offensive clinic, as the Celtics scored 64, evenly dividing it up with 32 in each quarter. Yet, Golden State remained within reach at the half with 53. David Lee had 16 of his 26 points in the first half (14 in the first qtr).

On the Celtics side, reserve guard Von Wafer went down with an apparent knee injury, and did not return.

With around four minutes remaining in the third, Boston had extended their lead to a game high 17, but that would be the high water mark as the Warriors began to whittle away at their deficit.

Ellis would score 28 of his 41 in the second half, and by the four minute mark of the fourth quarter a 17-point lead became four. The run had Celtics Coach Doc Rivers calling for time. Coming out of the time out, another Ellis three made it a one-point game at 100-99.

Golden State would even have the ball with a chance to take a lead, but unfortunately for them one was as close as they would get.

Like Ellis, Paul Pierce saved his best for the second-half, scoring 20 of his 27 points. Pierce would tie with Ray Allen with 27 points for the night's leader in Celtics scoring.

Rajon Rondo nearly had more assists, 16, than the entire Golden State team, 17.

The game came down to the final half minute. With the Celtics ahead 105-103, and in possession of the ball, Kevin Garnett missed a shot, but Allen was in the right spot for the rebound. After being fouled, Allen sunk both free throws that became the final points of the game, and a Celtics' 107-103 win.

Troy Murphy has still yet to make a field goal as a Celtic. Shaking off the rust of a mostly wasted season, Murphy went 0-4 on the night. While Nenad Krstic continued his surprising play, scoring 11 with six boards.
