Jorge Rivera and the 10 Best Trash-Talking Beatdowns in the UFC

First LastJun 3, 2018

Everyone loves a good fight, but when it is enhanced by trash talk and emotions are boiling, it makes it that much better for the fans.

The only thing better than the actual fight is seeing the trash talker get beaten. It gives a fan an appreciation of the fighter who took the time before the fight to concentrate on training and not talking smack.

In rare cases, fans get a situation where both fighters go at it like "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans did in the build-up before their match.

Most of the time, it's fighters like George St-Pierre who let their fists do the talking while their opponent buries themselves in a battle of words and emotions.

No. 10 Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley

Paul Daley posted this following comment on a social networking site in reference to Josh Koscheck:

“I will be back in the Octagon, Much sooner than i thought....Ready to kick one Fraggle haired customers ass......Naming no names, try guess who?”

This is what started it, and it didn't end there.

Koscheck returned with some of his own remarks.

"I plan on rearranging them teeth in his mouth. He already has those braces and those messed up teeth. So maybe we'll put some railroad spikes in there."

Daley lost a three-round decision and found an exit out the UFC door thanks to Josh Koscheck. Fueled by emotion and anger during and after the bout, Daley threw a punch well after the bell. It was the best punch of the fight for him, and the last punch he will ever throw inside the Octagon.

No. 9 Jorge Rivera vs. Michael Bisping

Rivera's most memorable moments from UFC 127 didn't take place during the fight where he lost by second-round knockout. In a host of viral videos, he made fun of his opponent, Michael Bisping, and explicitly called him out.

Not thinking he would accept the fight, Bisping signed the contract and the date was set. Rivera wasted little time in taking more jabs at Bisping, releasing several videos mocking the British fighter.

"I'm looking forward to the fight, looking forward to correcting him on a few of his opinions," Bisping said at the pre-fight press conference. "I believe he's massively underestimated me and I'm looking forward to making a fool out of him on the night."

The fight proved Rivera spent more time making videos than he did training. He gassed out in the second round and was stopped soon after.

No. 8 Rashad Evans vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

Probably the most exercised trash-talking between two fighters took place before UFC 114.

After Evans' training partner, Keith Jardine, lost to Jackson at UFC 106, he wasted no time in getting into the cage and into Jackson's face. From there, it was all a battle of emotions.

The trash talk ensued on the set of The Ultimate Fighter, season 11. Verbal exchanges carried the show through all 12 episodes, leading up to the final showdown.

Jackson had success late in the fight, but the first two rounds were dominated by Evans. A rematch is likely to take place if Evans doesn't move down to middleweight, and they will pick up where they left off.

No. 7 Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg

4 of 10

Frank Trigg is no stranger to trash-talking. He does it before most of his fights. Even if he likes his opponent, he will still have a couple things to say about him.

In an interview with heavy.com before his fight with Matt Serra, here's what Trigg had to say:

"I like trash talk. It makes it fun. Plus it makes the fights more interesting. Fans pay a little more attention."

In his two meetings with Matt Hughes for the welterweight championship, Trigg tried to get under Hughes' skin. Hughes didn't let him, and he choked Trigg out in both fights.

No. 6 Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz

5 of 10

What people will remember these two champions for is the two meeting they had at UFC 47 and UFC 66. In both fights, Ortiz talked himself into a fight he just couldn't win.

Styles make fights and Liddell's punching power and takedown defense were just too much for Ortiz to go up against. He got knocked out in both fights, but never gave up looking for a third fight.

It was supposed to take place last year. Ortiz was hoping to be the one to send Liddell into retirement. An injury forced Tito Ortiz to pull out of the bout during the filming of The Ultimate Fighter. In some ways, Ortiz is still responsible for Liddell's retirement after his replacement, Rich Franklin, knocked Liddell out in the first round.

No. 5 Stefan Struve vs. Sean McCorkle

6 of 10

"Stefan Struve is just further proof that Sean McCorkle is the best looking man over 6'6" on the planet."

McCorkle didn't have anything to say about Struve's skills as a fighter, and he found out what they were at UFC 124.

"I'm going to beat Struve, and I'm going to make it look easy. Then all my haters will talk about how he was never any good to begin with."

After McCorkle gained top control early in the round, Struve reversed him and ended up in full mount. Overwhelmed and tired, McCorkle was left defenseless as Struve threw elbows and punches down on him, bringing an end to the fight late in the first round.

No. 4 Wanderlei Silva vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

7 of 10

Three fights ending with three brutal knockouts. Trash-talk is no stranger to these two fighters, and they did it before each and every fight, making each outcome more special in the minds of their fans.

It's tough to say which trash-talker got the biggest beatdown. In the first two fights, Jackson found himself eating knees and hooks before being knocked out both times. The second of the two was one of the most brutal knockouts you will ever see.

Their third and final meeting was a quick knockout victory for Jackson, making him 1-2 against the former Pride champion.

It's up to the fans to decide which fighter got the biggest beatdown between these two.

No. 3 Carlos Condit vs. Dan Hardy

8 of 10

After going five rounds with Georges St-Pierre and losing a unanimous decision, Dan Hardy found himself with a lot of new fans. Dana White even admitted Hardy looked impressive even in defeat.

After calling Hardy out, Condit stayed quiet for most of the time leading up to the fight. Hardy didn't.

"I see that screwed up face he does, like he just swallowed a wasp. All ****** off and angry. He knows what's coming. Prepare yourself. Start sending out some job applications to see what's out there. Because by the time October 17th comes around, you might need to find a new job."

Hardy displayed toughness all around in his fight with St-Pierre, but Condit is one of those fighters who likes to prove a point by fighting his opponents at their own game. He did just that and knocked Hardy out in the first round.

No. 2 Josh Koscheck Vs. Georges St-Pierre

9 of 10

Josh Koscheck had a lot of things against him going into his rematch with Georges St-Pierre. After winning in St-Pierre's home country in his fight with Paul Daley, he called out St. Pierre in the post-fight interview.

A fight was eventually set up between the two, but only after they coached the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. Koscheck's smack talk didn't end there, and he took out his anger on everyone.

St-Pierre kept his cool and knew everything would be settled in the cage. This is what makes him such a great champion and an ambassador for the sport.

He defeated Koscheck after five rounds of almost exclusively using the jab. Whether or not Koscheck was trying to just hype the fight, he focused too much on everything but his opponent.

No. 1 Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar

It was his only previous defeat on his record. Frank Mir won the fight by kneebar, and fans were left with more questions than answers as to how Lesnar's success would be shaped in the future of his MMA career.

He returned with two victories, including a championship bout with Randy Couture. After knocking Couture out, Lesnar and Mir met for a second time and for the heavyweight title.

Before the bout, Mir and his camp made fun of Lesnar's skills on the ground and his career as a professional wrestler. The countdown show was further proof that Mir got under Lesnar's skin as he watched their first fight before breaking a door.

During the rematch, which took place at UFC 100, Lesnar quickly got Mir down to the mat, where he delivered a barrage of punches to Mir's face. Bloody and bruised, Mir made it to the second round with a smirk on his face but was quickly finished on the ground.
