UFC 127 Results: BJ Penn Can Actually Wrestle Really Well
In the first two rounds, BJ Penn was aggressive in his grappling.
He was able to take Jon Fitch down and get the better positioning during those two rounds.
If only BJ Penn had great cardio and endurance, then maybe "the prodigy" could have had a chance to go down as the greatest fighter that ever lived.
BJ Penn is considered by most to be the fastest man to achieve black belt rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
After working on his hands for a couple of years, some notable boxing trainers started proclaiming "the prodigy" had the best boxing in MMA.
Is it any surprise that when he wants to learn wrestling, he picks it up as easily as a paperweight?
Jon Fitch is a larger man with an impressive Division I wrestling background. B.J. Penn laughed at those accomplishments and essentially outwrestled Fitch for crucial positioning in the first two rounds.
Jon Fitch was dominant in the third round but admittedly surprised by Penn early on. He said he did not train any defensive or counter-wrestling and that he regrets it now.
Daniel Cormier, the wrestling coach at American Kickboxing Academy, told him: "BJ can wrestle. BJ can wrestle!"
He wishes he would have listened better.
