UFC 127 Results: Former K-1 Grand Prix Champ Mark Hunt Knocks out Tuchscherer

Sean SmithFeb 26, 2011

With six straight losses heading into UFC 127, Mark Hunt's MMA career appeared to be coming to an end. Some of the best in the world—such as Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett—contributed to that losing streak, but Hunt's most recent loss to Sean McCorkle was a hard one to swallow.

A wrestling-focused fighter, Chris Tuchscherer appeared to have the ideal skill set for defeating Hunt, a one-dimensional striker. However, Tuchscherer was unable to take Hunt to the ground quick enough at UFC 127, which was not good news for the Brock Lesnar training partner.

Tuchscherer did score a takedown late in the first round against Hunt but not before being dropped with a right hand. Without Tuchscherer having enough time to work toward a finish from the top position, the fight went to a second round.

Hunt once again knocked Tuchscherer down in the second round with a hard right uppercut. This time, Tuchscherer didn't recover and the referee called a stop to the fight. The win was Hunt's first since May 2006.

Hunt has defeated the likes of Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Wanderlei Silva during his career. At 36 years old, it is unlikely that this win over Tuchscherer, who could very well be released after this loss, will mark a renaissance in the career of Hunt. Still, this fight showed that it remains unwise for any fighter to stand with Hunt.
