Tito Ortiz Pulls Out Of UFC Fight Night Bout With Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
It's been a long time since former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz has won a fight and according to UFC President Dana White, it will be a bit longer before he can change that.
White announced on Twitter Saturday afternoon that Ortiz has pulled out of the March 26th UFC Fight Night main event with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira due to "stitches" and that Phil Davis will take his place on the card.
The Spike TV event is set for Seattle, WA, and has been selling extremely well to this point.
Yesterday, Ortiz tweeted, "I have (expletive) luck". After White made the announced, Ortiz tweeted, "22 stitches and a bad concussion sucks but I will heal and be better soon." He didn't go into any details about what the injury is, how it happened and when he could be back.
At 36 years old, Ortiz finds himself at the tail end of a notable, controversial and successful 14-year career amidst the worst losing streak in his fighting tenure. The fight against "Lil' Nog" was expected to be a make-or-break fight for Ortiz with a loss marking his exit from the UFC.
The 34-year-old Nogueira is coming off his first UFC defeat (Ryan Bader) in September and will bring a 19-4 mark into the Octagon in March.
The 8-0 Davis now was originally booked last week to fight Jason Brilz at UFC 129, but now has the opportunity to make a bigger name for himself with a win over a name veteran like Nogueira. The 26-year-old was last seen submitting Tim Boetsch at November's UFC 123.
