Fedor Emelianenko: The Top Fights We Want To See Before He Retires

Sal DeRoseJun 2, 2018

Fedor Emelianenko now seems to have a change in heart after his near retirement last Saturday.

Fedor still seems to have a little fight left in him to help propel his legacy even further in the history of MMA.

No matter what people will look at him and question his inability to sign with the UFC and avoid all top competition in it.

So, including UFC fighters, what would be the top fights we would want to see Fedor in?

Brock Lesnar

1 of 10

I mean this is one for obvious reasons, and you probably guessed it before even clicking the article.

Brock versus Fedor has been talked about so much and has so much hype around it that if it were to happen, it would be such a big deal everyone's head would explode.

Having these two finally meet in the Octagon would be amazing.

As much as Brock's size and wrestling would be able to decimate Fedor, Brock would make a mistake and Fedor would capitalize.

Not to mention I'm not high on Brock's stand-up, it's really nothing special or scary.

Alistair Overeem

2 of 10

This one has been talked about a lot the last few days and should be on this list.

Another big size disadvantage for Fedor would spell disaster against Overeem.

As much as I may like Overeem, Fedor still has a good chance to win. If this were for Overeem's belt maybe Fedor would train harder and come out swinging a lot better then he did against Silva. Maybe he would come out and not get pushed around by the monster that is Overeem.

But in reality, Fedor would be taken down and grounded out in a fight against Overeem.

Antonio Silva

This one is just based on the fact that it would be a rematch and redemption match for Fedor.

It would end the same way surely, but just to see whether or not Fedor would be able to beat him this time around, or even survive the match, would be interesting to see.

Gameplan would be totally different for Fedor while for Silva it would be takedown after takedown and grounding out Fedor for the win.

Silva would make sure this time it doesn't last too long and that there is no one screaming that the doctor shouldn't have stopped the fight so early. Which reminds me, everybody that says the doctor shouldn't have stopped it, do you have a death wish for Fedor? He was getting mauled at the end of the second round.

Ok, got that off my chest,

Like the Silva fight, it would be good to see a Fedor versus Fabricio Werdum rematch. Not only that, like the Overeem fight, this has been talked about as Fedor's next fight possibly.

Werdum caught Fedor the last time around. Fedor made a mistake, slipped up and you can't do that against Werdum.

He's one of the top heavyweights in MMA and would be a great redemption match for Fedor. I feel like this time around Fedor would handle Werdum but only to a decision. I can't see Fedor winning by submission or knockout. Werdum is too good too let an over-the-top Fedor win like that.

Cain Velasquez

Ok, this is really one sided. Like the fact Fedor would even show up to this fight would be win enough for Emelianenko.

But, in order to get a shot at Velasquez, Fedor would have had to work his way up the UFC chain to fight the current UFC heavyweight champion.

After a few wins Fedor might have his confidence and the will power to fight back.

Still, even with that, Velasquez would destroy Fedor at this point in his career.

If this was Fedor during his prime when he was undefeated for years, different story.

But, he's not undefeated and he's lost two fights in a year. Not a good sign for Fedor. Big win for Velasquez though. Could you imagine the hype surrounding Velasquez after this fight? I wouldn't want to look at MMA forums for a while because of all the Greatest of All-Time talk he would get.

Gegard Mousasi

This would be a really good fight for Fedor if he were to move to light heavyweight.

Mousasi is a big name in Strikeforce's light heavyweight division and is a good young fighter.

Mousasi is coming off two straight victories both by submission. He lost last year to Muhammad Lawal and lost his light heavyweight belt.

Gegard versus Fedor would still be a pretty cool fight to see. They are both virtually the same size give or take a couple of inches and weight wise they would be pretty close to the same, just Mousasi looks like he would be a little bigger.

It would be tough for both fighters and both have plenty of experience to back-up their fight. This one I feel could go either way. It would probably last out to a decision.

Mousasi by Unanimous Decision

Rafael Cavalcante

7 of 10

This would be for the light heavyweight belt most likely, and I'm just not that high on Rafael just yet.

He's set to face Dan Henderson on March 5th for his light heavyweight belt which would be Rafael's first big name victory really.

Fedor could probably handle Rafael for a while and be able to stand-up with him.

I just don't see any way in which Rafael would win this fight, or his fight with Henderson.

Hey anything is possible though.

Dan Henderson

Dan Henderson could be serious trouble for Fedor.

If Henderson were to win this, imagine all the Anderson Silva fans and what they would say.

"Oh see, Anderson was able to beat him and Fedor wasn't, that's why Silva is the greatest of all-time and not Fedor."

No. Fedor wouldn't have that. Both fighters are old in age and both fighters could easily keep this fight standing and put on a great show for the fans.

If Henderson does lose to Cavalcante in March and Fedor moves to light heavyweight, I think this should be an ideal fight for Fedor to get into the light heavyweight division.

They're pretty equal in size and stature really. Just keep in mind though, Henderson has never been knocked out. It's either a unanimous decision or submission victory for Fedor.

This would be pretty cool to see and a great last fight for both fighters.

Both fighters are at that age where retirement seems close and inevitable. Both fighters would want to go out on top. Both have had really great careers in MMA.

This would be a great retirement match for both of these fighters.

Captain America versus the Russian. Cold War bout to end all bouts.

It's kind of got that Rocky IV feel to it. This seems like a really even fight to me. Either way I wouldn't care who wins, these two guys I have a ton of respect for. But in the end someone has to walk away victorious.

Sorry, Randy.

Ok, now this may be way, way, way out there, but this would be pretty cool.

Shogun would probably demolish Fedor at this point in his career (And by probably I mean almost definitely).

Two former Pride champions battling it out in the UFC. Fedor finally fighting with the best and one of the top fighters in MMA? Can't get much better then that.

Shogun would definitely win in the end probably by submission or TKO in the first couple of rounds. It would be interesting to see Fedor fight Shogun to help maintain his legacy, but also his move to light heavyweight.

All in all I think this would be pretty cool even despite how one-sided it is.

Shogun by 2nd round submission (And that's being generous for Fedor)
