FIFA To Investigate Heavy Betting Patterns of Matches in Turkey
FIFA has just announced it is launching an investigation of two matches played in Turkey. The reason has been claims of heavy betting patterns that resulted in seven penalties.
A spokesperson for FIFA told CNN News that they are requesting match reports from the federations of the countries involved.
The matches being investigated are Bolivia versus Latvia and Bulgaria versus Estonia.
The Estonian Football Association has decided to reveal what transpired before the launching of the investigation.
Mihkel Uiboleht (spokesperson for the Estonian Football Association) said its association was informed of the possibility of manipulations.
He also admitted the friendly between Estonia and Bulgaria was organized by an agency that "might be involved."
Uiboleht announced that the Estonian Football Association terminated its relationship with the agency.
According to what has transpired, the scoring for the two friendlies originated from the same penalty spot. It is hoped FIFA will investigate what has happened and punish those who are involved in this travesty.
FIFA now appears to have its hands full with this investigation and the preparations for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
The organization will also have to deal with reforming how it selects potential hosts for the FIFA World Cup.
