The Best Athlete Trick Shot Videos

Michael CahillFeb 14, 2011

Athletes spend an enormous amount of time learning their craft. Whether it’s the year-round conditioning, the pickup games they play with their friends or the extra practicing they do by themselves, it’s clear that athletes of all sports have a mastery over their craft.

This mastery often propels guys to be able to do amazing things within their sport. Whether it’s an amazing shot, flipping of the bat or just command over the ball itself, athletes have the unique ability to create extraordinary moments to marvel at.

Luckily for us, the Internet allows these athletes to share their unique abilities with a worldwide audience. So here are the best athlete trick-shot videos on the web.

But before I proceed, let me be clear here: The athletes must be at least in college. These videos included no in-game moments. I weeded out anything that seemed to be fake, but thanks to amazing video editing, there could be a video that slips by.

When ranking these videos I also took into account the degree of difficulty, as well as the setting. I gave a little extra credit to things done in front of a crowd and also tried to give a little bit of credit to those who were extra creative.

So let's roll video...

T15. Kevin Love Trick Shot

1 of 17

Here's a disclaimer about the first two videos you'll see: The reporter is clearly insane. I, as you all will, think these shots are very cool, but the man from ToppsTV has taken enthusiasm to the next level.

Still, besides being able to pull down nearly 20 rebounds a night, Kevin Love is showing everyone that he's handy with the basketball. He can make a shot from anywhere...too bad the rest of the Minnesota Timberwolves can't.

T15. Donte Greene Trick Shot

2 of 17

Besides the mentally unstable reporter, this goes just a notch above Love's (although still technically a tie) because, while they are similar tricks, who doesn't love a three-point hook shot?

The Kings guard is averaging about six points a game. Perhaps he can learn how to incorporate these tricks into his game.

14. Dwyane Wade Trick Shots

3 of 17

Wade has skill—that can't be questioned—but in this video he shows that he's got a lot of range too. He hits a shot from his seat and then from further back in the stands.

Wade puts on a long-range clinic for those who are in attendance. These shots rank a little lower because they are simply long-range threes.

Now if he could only learn how to hit from behind the line against the Celtics, he might make a difference.

13. LeBron Goes Underhanded

4 of 17

Before he ditched Cleveland for the warm temperatures of South Beach, LeBron was known to excite the home crowd by doing tricks and showing off during warm-ups. This shot is the norm for LeBron.

I realize for the Cleveland fans this is pure torture. It's like watching an old video of an ex-girlfriend that broke your heart.

You remember how happy you were. Now they have moved on, and you're stuck with Tony Parker, and not even the good Tony Parker. Don't worry—this too shall pass (actually, it probably won't).

12. Ray Allen's Over the Shoulder Three-Pointer

5 of 17

Ray Allen has been hitting threes so long, it's amazing he misses anymore. This shot, however, is not the type of shot the Celtics draw up.

In warm-ups Allen goes over the shoulder from half court. The kind of strength that's needed to do this is nothing short of impressive. Ray Allen is not just one of the league's best three-point artists, but one of the best trick shot makers in the game as well.

11. Dwight Howard's Half-Court Heave

6 of 17

They don't call Dwight Howard "Superman" for nothing. The Orlando Magic center set a world record for the longest shot taken from his "seat."

What's more impressive is how effortless he makes it look. If he could hit his free throws and outside shots with that much ease, it would probably stop Stan Van Gundy from panicking all the time.

Ah, who am I kidding?

10. Vince Carter Hits a Foul Line Shot

7 of 17

If I am going to praise Dwight Howard for his 47-foot sinker from his backside, then I've got to give Vince Carter just a little more love for making Howard's shot look easy with an 86-foot bomb.

Here Carter just hurls a shot from about the free-throw line all the way down to the other side. Vince did something impressive, but it ultimately counted for nothing...sadly, that is something he's all too familiar with.

9. LeBron's Full-Court Heave

8 of 17

The progression goes: half court, three quarters, full court. Judging by that criteria, LeBron gets the nod over Carter and Howard.

This shot is one of the best single shots I've seen. It reminds you just how strong he is. It is no wonder why he's the scariest guy on a fastbreak. If this is how powerful he is in a stationary position, just imagine how powerful he is with a full head of steam.

8. Monta Ellis Makes an Exit Shot

9 of 17

You gotta love a shot like this for its creativity. There have been a lot of long distance shots attempted, but never from the exit tunnel.

The rest of the NBA better hope he doesn't show up at the H.O.R.S.E. competition.

7. Josh Womack's Crazy Bat

10 of 17

You'll have to watch this again because the first time you see it it doesn't look real. But Josh Womack does a weird trick with a bat that is as hard to explain as it is to do.

He's also the only athlete on this list who may not be playing anymore. According to various websites, he's no longer on a minor league team. Looks like that bat couldn't do everything he wanted it to do.

6. DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin Get Creative

11 of 17

This is what players do with their down time. While Blake Griffin has been known to excite audiences all over the NBA with his amazing skill, he's also known to make a few trick shots.

Watch him and DeAndre Jordan use this house as the setting, and the backboard for these amazing trick shots.

More Griffin and Jordan

More Griffin and Jordan and their amazing trick shots. You know it's a heck of trick shot when you have to use a bathtub for it.

5. Ronaldinho Plays Catch

13 of 17

You've seen athletes bounce a ball to themselves a million times, but you've never seen an athlete do this. You have to go about 90 seconds into it in order to watch him play catch with the goal, but trust me...it's worth it.

4. Rasheed Wallace's Trick Shots

14 of 17

Sheed never seemed to be much of a guy for practicing, but now we know he must have been doing something all those days he spent at practice.

Here Rasheed does a couple of jaw-dropping shots.

3. Mark Titus Proves He's the Rainmaker

15 of 17

Mark Titus has been one of the best things to happen to college basketball in a long time. You always hear about the superstars, but you rarely hear about the guys who take up space at the end of the bench.

When Titus got some feedback from fans saying he couldn't play, Titus decided to set the record straight. Here he is with some great trick shots and a demonstration of skill that is creative and clearly the funniest thing we have on this list.

2. Lassi Hurskainen Shows His Goalkeeping Skill

16 of 17

Goalies don't get the chance to show off their footwork too often. They dive, they kick out, they get ready for the next shot attempt.

But Lassi Hurskainen decided to show that goalkeepers can do a lot with a soccer ball. In this montage he does everything under the sun with a soccer ball.

1. Johnny Mac Trick Shot Quarterback

17 of 17

He may never be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but Johnny McEntee can do things with a football that those two guys couldn't begin to do.

Watch the most impressive display of quarterbacking skill since the Super Bowl.
