UFC Dream Fight: How Would Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko Go Now?

Sal DeRoseFeb 12, 2011

After a huge career-altering loss for Fedor Emelianenko, MMA forums have been buzzing about how different MMA history would have been if Fedor would have came to the UFC to face off against Brock Lesnar instead of signing with Strikeforce.

Of course, Fedor's management played a major role in Fedor not signing with the UFC after Fedor left Affliction. Their demands and UFC President Dana White walking away has significantly changed the landscape of MMA in the past two years.

If Fedor were to face off against Brock Lesnar now, how would Fedor fair against the guy that was proclaimed to be able to beat Fedor two years ago?

Both fighters have been proven to be beatable. We found out Brock has a weak chin and that Fedor's age and size is hurting him against the Strikeforce heavyweight division.

Again, after Fedor's loss tonight Brock's size has become—yet again—one of the main reasons he would be able to beat Fedor.

Antonio Silva dominated Fedor on the ground. Silva made Fedor look like a 10-year-old schoolboy. Fedor isn't made for the heavyweight division anymore, but there are exceptions.

Fedor could beat Brock at this point, and Brock could beat Fedor.

What would it take for them both to win this fight?

Background of the Fight

Brock (5-2-0) would come in at least 265 pounds—a whole 35 pounds more then Fedor (31-3-0, 1 NC) would at least be coming in with. Brock is also three and a half inches taller then Fedor (Brock is 6'3" and Fedor is 5'11.5").

Brock Lesnar also has a distinct reach advantage over Fedor much like Silva did. Lesnar has an 81-inch reach to Fedor's 74-inch reach—a distinct seven inch advantage for Lesnar. Age is the only thing that is close in this tale of the tape—Brock is 33 years old and Fedor is 34 years old.

What Brock Lesnar would have to do to win

It's a plain and simple game plan for Brock. After last night we saw that Fedor's size is something that needs to be exploited.

Brock has great muscle takedown ability, but once he gets to the ground it could spell disaster for Brock. One wrong move and Fedor takes advantage much like Frank Mir did in his first fight against Brock.

Fedor seemed very susceptible to Silva's movement and control on the ground. If Brock could somehow duplicate Silva's fluid movement on the ground and pound out Fedor, he would definitely win.

Brock can't stand and trade with Fedor either. Unlike Silva, Brock doesn't have the chin to stand and trade with Fedor. Emelianenko landed a good amount of shots on Silva before he was tossed to the ground.

What Fedor Emelianenko would have to do to win

Different game plan for Fedor by far. Fedor should stand up and trade with Brock. We all realized it in Brock's last fight, he can't take the big punches.

If Fedor can stand and trade he would easily be able to knock out Brock or wear him down.

Even if the fight did go to the ground, Fedor still has a shot to win. Even with Silva on him Fedor was still able to shake him once and had attempted two submissions. Brock could easily slip up (again, like his fight with Mir) and fall into a Fedor submission attempt.

Brock's ground game and Silva's ground game are two completely different things. Brock wouldn't have as easy a time switching control as Silva did.

Prediction: Fedor by Round 3 TKO

Either way, I have this going someone is going to be mad. Fedor lovers would hate having Brock winning and Brock lovers would be saying how washed up Fedor is and that Brock would dominate Fedor any day of the week.

Both fighters haven't looked great in their last fight. Both fighters have had retirement talks swirl around them now. I just can't see Brock executing the flawless game plan he would need to execute in order to beat Fedor.

If this was two years ago I would probably give the slight edge to Brock, just a slight edge though.

Brock isn't nearly what he use to be and won't beat Junior Dos Santos come their fight after they finish The Ultimate Fighter.

Fedor against the rest of the UFC heavyweights is a different story. But, against Brock Lesnar, Fedor would most likely come out on top in what would be Fight of the Year. It's a really close fight to call even now after both fighters have fallen in the past two years.

Unfortunately we will never know the true winner of this fight. Dana White has already taken to his Twitter feed criticizing anyone who is still trying to talk up Fedor after his loss to Silva tonight.

Plus, Dana would never sign someone coming off two losses—not even Fedor.

Not to mention Fedor seemed like he was most likely done with MMA, content with walking away after two straight losses.
