Emelianenko Vs. Silva Tale of The Tape
1 of 3
Fedor (31-2-0, 1NC), will be looking to rebound from a submission (Triangle) loss to Fabricio Werdum last June and will do so against yet another talented Brazilian.
Silva (15-2-0) tipped the scales at yesterday's weigh-ins at 264 lbs. and will most likely enter the cage at 285 lbs. against the 230 lb. Emelianenko.
Furthermore, Silva will hold an eight-inch reach advantage over "The Last Emperor"—however, this is nothing new to the former Pride heavyweight champion as he has been at a disadvantage in both size and reach throughout the majority of his professional career.
Emelianenko Vs. Silva Play-By-Play
2 of 3
Play-by-play from the organization's main event:
Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Antonio Silva
Round 1 - Both fighters enter the cage and take their corners to begin the bout with Fedor being the obvious fan favorite as he receives a chorus of cheers when his name is announced. Silva takes the center of the cage and lands a leg kick, but Fedor responds with a flurry of punches. Fedor bouncing around in the center of the cage now and both fighters clinch with Silva pressing Emelianenko against the cage briefly. They break and both men land punches before separating and Silva presses Fedor against the cage and is working for a takedown, but Fedor uses a guillotine to counter the takedown and they are now on the canvas. Fedor is working from Silva's half guard and goes for a kimura, but by doing so Silva reverses the position and stands. Again, Silva ties his opponent up along the cage, but this time is successful in taking Fedor down. The first round of action ends with the Silva takedown.
Round 2 - Silva kicks off the second round of action with a well timed takdown and immediately lands in Fedor's half guard. From the position Silva is working ground-n-pound and now moves into side control and now full mount where he transitions to back mount. Silva snatches Fedor's right arm from mount and locks on an head and arm choke, but "The Last Emperor" escapes. However, Silva remains in top control and is battering Emelianenko and now transitions into a kneebar but Fedor latches onto a leg of his own as the second round ends. As both men stand, Emelianenko's right eye is badly bruised and is closed shut.
Between rounds 2 and 3 the fight is stopped due the right eye of Emelianenko being completely closed.
Winner: Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva by TKO (Stoppage) - Round 3
Emelianenko Vs. Silva: Main Event Result and Post Fight Analysis
3 of 3
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva main event result and post fight analysis:
Fedor Emelianenko loses his second consecutive fight, this time it was by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) and post-fight hints that it may very well be the final time he competes as a professional Mixed Martial Artist.
In the first round, Emelianenko bounced around and looked good in the opening stanza, his strikes mostly landed in the exchanges, he avoided a takedown, and escaped without taking any major damage from Silva. Judges also scored the round 10-9 for Fedor.
The second round would play out much differently, Antonio Silva landed takedowns which helped him to control where the fight took place and once on the mat, he unleashed hammer fists from top position which battered Emelianenko's right eye. Silva transitioned from mount, to back mount, and back to mount again. Fedor could not shake the 265+ pound Brazilian from the positions and it would ultimately be his undoing as his right eye was bruised and closed shut as the round ended. After a look over from the referee, the fight is called and Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva was awarded the most prized win of his career.
Silva, now moves ahead in the heavyweight grand prix and will face the winner of Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem.
