Colorado Avalanche: Desperation Setting In, Avalanche Recall Goaltender Grahame

Today, the Colorado Avalanche added a player to it's roster who hasn't been in the NHL since the 2007-2008 season.

No, I'm not talking about Peter Forsberg.

In light of potential long term injuries to defenseman Kyle Cumiskey (head) and left wing T.J. Galiardi (wrist), the Colorado Avalanche have recalled goaltender John Grahame and defenseman Jonas Holos from their AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.

Grahame, 35, is an NHL veteran of eight seasons. In 224 career games, Grahame has amassed a career record of 97-86-14. His last NHL action came in the 2007-2008 season, when he went 5-7-1 with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Craig Anderson, winner of 38 games and arguably the Avalanche's MVP of a season ago, has 13 wins in 31 starts this season. In his last 15 games, he's 3-11-1.

Stunning numbers from a goaltender who finished top 10 in votes for the NHL's MVP in 2009-2010.

The possibility remains that the injury to Anderson's knee, which caused him to miss nine games earlier in the season, hasn't fully healed.

Regardless, it's likely former USA Olympian John Grahame will get a chance to play goaltender for the Colorado Avalanche.

With a respectable AHL record of 14-9-2, Grahame has earned another shot in the NHL. But whether he can actually provide some stability in the Colorado crease remains to be seen.

Having lost four straight, and seven of it's last eight games, the Colorado Avalanche (25-23-6) sit 14th in the Western Conference.
