WWE: 10 Perfect Opponents for Sting at WrestleMania 27

Jersey Strong JayJun 7, 2018

After writing a column that tells each and every one of you readers 10 hypothetical, possible reasons why Sting shouldn't and won't join WWE, I'm going to play the other side of the fence.

Since I am now 100 percent positive Sting won't be coming in for WrestleMania (I hope I'm wrong), I am going to indulge the pipe dreamers and give you 10 perfect opponents for Sting at WrestleMania 27.

You will see some that are obvious and some you might not have thought of.  I, like most, would love to see Sting show up in WWE.  However, I will not even believe a shred of it until I see his current image appear on a WWE TV screen.

I am NOT including The Undertaker in this list because it is the obvious option so I will include him here in my introduction.

Sting vs. The Undertaker is a match that I personally think will never happen, but would be incredibly beneficial for all parties involved if it did.  Both men would have the chance to further cement their legacies in professional wrestling.

It could also be the perfect encounter for these extraordinary wrestlers to ride off into the sunset with.

10. Triple H

I am sure a fair majority of you Bleacher readers would love to see Triple H and Sting square off.  Personally, I would not.

Triple H has beaten every wrestler from WCW fame in the past and would no doubt use his political influence in WWE to achieve the same if this match were to take place at WrestleMania.

9. Edge

I believe that Sting and Edge could put on a really entertaining match, but personally, it wouldn't be in my top five.

Edge, who like Triple H has been injury prone, would be a good candidate to wrestle Sting at WrestleMania because of his flexibility in the ring.

By flexibility, I mean he can work many different styles to mask the weaknesses of the aging Sting.  The best matches Sting has had recently were against guys who could easily hide Sting's age.

Edge vs. Sting at WrestleMania could have been the career-defining match for The Rated R Superstar that many feel he lacks on the big stage.

8. The Big Show

3 of 10

The Big Show is a perfect candidate because of his ability to create buzz with his size.  Obviously, this wouldn't be the route for WWE to go, but there are worse choices.

Sting could work well with Big Show in a big-match atmosphere.  With the exact opposite reasoning I used for Edge, Sting could accentuate his skill against a man of Show's size.  Every offensive move would look more devastating because it is hurting a giant of a man.

7. The Rock

I would list The Rock higher, but this completely unlikely scenario needs a lower ranking.

Think about the buzz for this dream match.  The Rock and Sting is one of the dream matches that I wanted to see when WWE acquired WCW.  Sadly, we got 101 matches between The Rock and Booker T instead.

I know The Rock isn't coming back to the ring, but since you all can dream that Sting is coming to WWE to wrestle, can't I have my own personal pipe dream?

6. Kane

The theatrics that could transpire between Sting and Kane would carry the match itself.  Kane is another guy who lacks that high-quality WrestleMania moment that all top guys look for.

A dream match with Sting could be one of those moments.  Kane puts everyone over, so it would be a win-win situation in this case.

Sting vs. Kane at WrestleMania 27.  Short and straight to the point.  I love this idea, but there are better ones like...

5. Shawn Michaels

Another unlikely scenario, and that's why it is listed at No. 5.  If Shawn Michaels was still an active wrestler and the possibility of Sting coming in was likely, then this would be No. 2 on my list.

Shawn Michaels and Sting has been a dream match of mine since 1995.  Both guys have cemented their legacies in different companies and in the business overall.  While Sting was ruling the land in WCW, Shawn Michaels was doing the same in the WWF.

These two would put on one of the greatest matches in WWE history.

Shawn Michaels vs. Sting at WrestleMania.  It just looks right to me.

4. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho, even though not currently signed by WWE, could be the perfect opponent for Sting.

Jericho has the promo ability to sell the match on his own with Sting not even being present on TV and just making a one-time appearance at WrestleMania.

This match would be absolutely amazing and would allow the career of Chris Jericho to come full circle by defeating one of the top WCW stars of all-time on the biggest stage in wrestling.

On a side note, wouldn't it be funny if on the 2-21-11 RAW Chris Jericho was the guy in the mysterious vignettes?  He could look at the camera and say, "Were you expecting somebody else?"

3. Randy Orton

8 of 10

Sting is one legend that Randy Orton has yet to get a chance to "kill."  This could be a huge headliner type of match for WrestleMania and provide some intense moments.

2. CM Punk

CM Punk is a guy that can adapt to any situation perfectly.  This could be a classic case of a man who brainwashes others into believing everything he says.  He is the leader of a dominant faction that doesn't seem to be going away.

If Sting were to be the guy to finally help dissolve the WWE of The Nexus, it could be a story line for the ages.

CM Punk vs. Sting at WrestleMania 27 seems like a great option.  The top heel in WWE against the all-time babyface legend.

1. John Cena

Besides The Undertaker, who I mentioned in the beginning of this article, there would be no better opponent for Sting than John Cena.

Love him or hate him, Cena is THE MAN right now in WWE and will be for the foreseeable future.

Imagine if Sting came in as a dark, twisted heel that was hell bent on ridding the WWE of John Cena?  If it took place in a little, dingy, glorified warehouse like TNA it would be "same old shit," but in WWE it would be absolutely epic.

These two could light up the WrestleMania stage with their charisma and theatrics.

John Cena vs. Sting at WrestleMania 27 is the ultimate dream match for both men at the biggest show of the year.
