David Haye's Trainer Adam Booth: "The Klitschkos' Arrogance Is Unbelievable!"
Adam Booth, trainer and manager of WBA heavyweight champion David Haye of England, has issued a scathing reply to The Ring magazine recognized heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko's take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum regarding a title unification showdown on July 2.
"David and I are sick and tired of the publicity that Klitschko continues to spout," Booth told Sky Sports in an extended rant about the Ukrainian IBF, IBO, and WBO champion.
"I haven't heard anything from the Klitschkos since the new year when they told me they were going to be fighting Dereck Chisora next instead of David, after having given them everything they wanted," Booth complained.
"(It was) a total waste of time, we never got to the contract stage and it's so far from being a completed deal because they were looking for any reason not to make the fight last time out when we negotiated.
"I just think it's a bit of one-upsmanship publicity that's a bit tedious and bit tired as far as I'm concerned...maybe he should just concentrate on his upcoming fight, which is Dereck Chisora," Booth opined.
After once more going over contentious details of a possible fight deal, such as TV money from the Klitschkos' German broadcasters, Booth launched into more vitriol aimed at Wladimir and his brother, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who recently called Haye a "clown."
"David is a WBA champion and if they think the WBA are going to let their championship sit and rot on the shelf while he goes about his business, that's just another indication of how arrogant they are," Booth spat.
"They genuinely don't know how to negotiate a 50-50 fight because they've never been involved in one."
Then Booth gave an ultimatum of his own:
"The level of arrogance is unbelievable and we're sick and tired it. If he wants the fight, get into the ring with David next.
"Just forget everything else and get in the ring with David next.
"If [Wladimir] is prepared to do that in the next 24 hours, I'm pretty sure David would agree to it," Booth offered.
And if Wladimir doesn't agree?
Booth wasn't closing the door entirely, making another pitch for a fight later in 2011.
"David's fighting in May, Wladimir's fighting in April.
"From May until October, that's plenty of time for David to rest, recover from any injuries, train, and be ready for a fight against Wladimir, if Wladimir wants to get in the ring with him," Booth said.
"But, you know, with the negotiations we had last time, was the first time ever that I genuinely believed that he doesn't want to get in the ring with David."
