UFC 126 Aftermath: Rashad Evans Moving Weight Class if Jon Jones Beats Shogun
Jon Jones' teammate Rashad Evans has said it himself: he will not fight his teammate.
"I'm still not going to fight Jon. I will always find something to challenge myself. I will go up to heavyweight or down to middleweight. But I will not fight Jon." said Rashad Evans on ESPN's MMA Live.
The ideal solution would be moving to middleweight for the former Light Heavyweight champion.
You can't argue against an Anderson Silva vs. Rashad Evans middleweight bout.
Jon Jones fights Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128 in Newark, New Jersey for the light heavyweight title.
With his teammate set to face off against Rua, Evans of course thinks the best of Jones' future:
"I'm happy for Jones, I think it's a great fight for him. I think Jones is going to smash Rua." said Evans.
A move for Evans to middleweight could be possibly a great move for him. He would be a pretty big middleweight and cutting weight could be a challenge for Evans.
Although a move to the heavyweight division seems big, Rashad is also a former heavyweight. Evans won The Ultimate Fighter Two in a split decision over Brad Imes as a heavyweight.
Evans hasn't had a fight in half a year now and is 15-1-1 overall in his career. He was named the number one contender for the light heavyweight title after his unanimous decision in UFC 114 last May.
Now, Evans chose not to fight anyone until he fought Rua who, at the time, was recovering from surgery.
UFC President Dana White even let his sentiments known after UFC 126 about Rashad waiting for Shogun.
"I said it's crazy waiting for Shogun. You wait all this time and then something like this pops up. Now you're out even longer." said White
Now Evans has taken a weird turn in his career. Whatever Rashad's next move is, it will be pretty soon.
