NBA: Casting The Movie For The 2008 Boston Celtics Championship Team
The Boston Celtics had a pretty remarkable 2007-08 season.
In their first year with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen on the roster, the Celtics managed to take the league by storm and win the NBA Championship in the process.
Do you know what a championship like this calls for? A movie.
Obviously most actors are shorter than basketball players, but this movie will implement the use of new (and currently nonexistent) technology to deal with that problem. So with that being said, the height of the actors will not be an issue.
The main characters will be the members of the Celtics team and some notable opponents (Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, etc.). The rest of the players will be basketball players with college experience to make the games look as realistic as possible.
As for the actors portraying the Celtics, these men will go through several months of training to become at least as good as a Division III college basketball player.
Most people would actually be surprised at how athletic some actors are.
Regardless, this movie isn't (to my knowledge) actually being filmed, so we can imagine away.
Without further ado, the cast...
Notable Opponents: Kobe Bryant
1 of 9
Kobe Bryant is an individual who is greatly hated by the Celtics' faithful.
Who would be an actor capable of playing this role? Kanye West.
No, he hasn't been in any movies yet, but his personality is too good to be passed on for this role. And even better, Kanye is featured in a, guess who, Kobe Bryant movie.
His talent is undeniable, similar to that of Kobe, but at the same time, he is hated by a large portion of the population (see also: Swift, Taylor).
The two vaguely resemble each other in appearance, but internally they are composed nearly identically. Both are envied, both are talented and both will now be hated by Boston fans.
Notable Opponents: Phil Jackson
2 of 9
For Phil Jackson, the movie requires an actor who is experienced and used to success.
Billy Bob Thornton fits that description pretty well.
Sharing some physical resemblance to Jackson, Thornton also has a background in athletics; he tried out for the Kansas City Royals, but was let go due to injuries.
Thornton has the ability to diversify his acting styles, as made evident by contrasting the very different "Slingblade" and "Bad Santa," both of which he was nominated for numerous awards.
Based on that, he will be able to adjust to the role of Jackson, a wise and usually reserved individual.
Sorry to let Thornton know, but he will be hated by most of the viewers.
At least he and Phil rock awesome goatees.
Notable Opponents: LeBron James
3 of 9
The Celtics met the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in 2008, thus playing LeBron James.
Few, if any, people have the physical abilities to resemble LeBron, but a good choice from the acting profession is Idris Elba.
Elba stands at just shy of 6'3", which isn't terribly short for an actor. His body is also well-toned, and he has a LeBron-like feel to him.
Once again, sadly for Elba, he will be hated by most of the viewers.
Perhaps he'll go on vacation to South Beach after the filming?
Starters: Kendrick Perkins
4 of 9
Kendrick Perkins was, and still is, an under-appreciated starter in the NBA; perhaps too is Isaiah Mustafa.
Known for his role in Old Spice commercials, Mustafa is a fine athlete himself.
Standing at about 6'4", Mustafa was a practice squad wide receiver for a handful of NFL franchises and starred at Arizona State.
Although he is arguably the funniest commercial actor, he has received little love when it comes to shows and movies. He has only played minor roles in a few shows and movies, but one did involve him being a basketball player:
Even Money.
Perkins too receives little appreciation, and is considered to be the weakest link on the Celtics team.
His value is immense like Mustafa's, who will (or would) make the most out of this opportunity.
Starters: Rajon Rondo
5 of 9
Rajon Rondo wasn't the player in 2008 that he is now, but he still played a valuable role on the 2008 championship team.
Rondo, who seems like a fun guy to be around and also capable of being serious in certain situations, could be wonderfully played by Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Another actor with experience in athletic films, Gooding would be great for Rondo.
He is best known for playing Rod Tidwell, star wide receiver, in "Jerry Maguire." Also of note is the fact that he plays ice hockey (really, no movie).
On the court, he would be able to get down some of Rondo's signature moves and in the locker room could provide humor and youth.
One thing Gooding won't be able to get down though is Rondo's 6'10" wingspan.
Starters: Ray Allen
6 of 9
Maybe this is the easy way out, but it is justified. Portraying Ray Allen will be none other than...Ray Allen.
Allen has proved himself to be a talented actor, costarring in "He Got Game" in 2000 and making an appearance in "Harvard Man."
His work ethic is unmatched, as is his playing style. Allen is the only person capable of shooting in the style that he does, and no one else comes even close.
His abilities are too unique, and given his acting background, Allen is the perfect actor for playing...Allen.
Starters: Kevin Garnett
7 of 9
Kevin Garnett is the most intense man you will ever see on television. Even through a screen, KG can make his presence felt in a room.
An actor who shares the same abilities is Peter Mensah.
The physical resemblance between the two is eerie, as is their ability to capture attention through a two-dimensional screen.
With a warrior-like mentality, Mensah can play Garnett as well as anyone but the "Big Ticket" himself.
Starters: Paul Pierce
8 of 9
The captain. The Truth. The MVP. Who should play Paul Pierce?
The answer is Michael Ealy.
Now while most of you have probably never even heard of Ealy before, he is the right choice.
Like Pierce, Ealy has a quiet swagger and has at least decent physical resemblances to Pierce. Ealy would be able to play the MVP of the Finals, and with some basketball training, would be the best choice to knock down a game winner.
His demeanor is calm, but he would always be ready, like Pierce, to put the game away.
Bench: Brian Scalabrine
9 of 9Seth Rogen.
Just for the press conference.
This would be epic.
