Jalen Grimble Announcement: What It Means for Miami Football
Jalen Grimble was schedlued to head from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. It would be a seamless transition, as his cousin was already at USC and the Trojans were his favorite school. Grimble committed to USC on May 1st of last year.
Now, that's not the case. Grimble is headed to Coral Gables to play for Miami. The four-star defensive end de-committed from USC in the recent days and it doesn't seem to have been a good breakup. But where one door closes, another door opens.
Grimble had UCLA and Nebraska hot after him, but felt the love at Miami via defensive line coach Jethro Fanklin. What makes this interesting is Franklin was one time the defensive line coach at, you guessed it, USC.
Franklin has known Grimble since he entered high school, and they have a tight bond. He loved the Miami tradition, private school education and become fascinated with the weight room in Coral Gables. Grimble has the ability to play both defensive end and outside linebacker. He stands close to 6'4" and 250 pounds.
Strong at the point of attack, Grimble can anchor against the run on the strongside and still get after the passer as a rusher. He's an excellent athlete along the trenches and has the speed to chase down ball carriers from the backside.
Al Golden and his staff have a reputation of developing players and making them better, which is not the case at every program. This appealed to Grimble and father, who helped him through the recruiting process.
This could be a two-bird-with-one-stone get for the Canes, as Jalen's cousin Xavier is now contemplating transferring to Miami.
