NFL Rumors: Vince Young To the Minnesota Vikings in 2011?

Kyle VassaloJan 31, 2011

The Titans were faced with an ultimatum. After a very public rift between the longest tenured head coach in football in Jeff Fisher and what many saw as the quarterback of the future in Vince Young, the Titans were forced to choose.

In a surprise move, they went with neither. Fisher and the Titans parted ways last week and it has been announced that they are seeking a trade for Vince Young, who is due an 8.5 million dollar salary next season.

The contract itself is going to make Young difficult to move, not to mention his character concerns. Young's maturity is constantly called into question, and the void between he and Jeff Fisher is a reason for an alarm to sound.

That being said, if any team is going to take a chance on Young, it could very well be the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are moving on from legendary quarterback Brett Favre. Leslie Frazier is beginning his regime as head coach and will want to solidify the quarterback position going into his first season.

The Vikings saw the way their team responded when Joe Webb was in the game. Webb created a number of plays with his feet and his arm. The team and its playmakers responded well to the dual threat quarterback play of Webb. That being said, Webb also at times made shaky decisions.

Frazier might have an opportunity to bring in a quarterback with a history of winning. Someone who can make the same plays as Joe Webb, but also brings a veteran experience to the huddle. Vince Young could come into Minnesota and maximize the potential of the offense.

Adrian Peterson and Vince Young could be as dangerous as Chris Johnson and Young were in Tennessee. Young is surrounded with young, talented targets in Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and Visanthe Shiancoe.

His versatility will allow him to extend plays and get the ball down the field to his playmakers. With the current roster, teams are going to be loading up the box and pounding Adrian Peterson. The offense is one dimensional and the run stopping fronts teams are going to put in front of Adrian Peterson could put his shelf life in jeopardy.

The Vikings want to preserve the career of their All-Pro back. Bringing in Vince Young stretches the field and lightens the load a bit for Peterson. The run game will benefit along with the passing game. Young is an underrated quarterback and a game changer.

Adding Vince Young to the equation could launch the Vikings back into NFC North relevancy. They will obviously need to rework his contract and get him acclimated to the offense, but failing to pursue Young could lead to another devastating season.
