Troy Aikman Teases Potential Cowboys Future amid ESPN 'Monday Night Football' Contract Rumors
ESPN color commentator Troy Aikman is open to reuniting with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones as he navigates through his uncertain future on Monday Night Football broadcasts.
"This week he said some really kind things, which meant a lot to me, quite honestly," Aikman told Mike Fisher of Cowboys Roundtable regarding Jones (h/t Mark Maske of Front Office Sports). "So, yeah, I would welcome any conversation with Jerry. And quite honestly I don't know if there would be or if there ever would be an opportunity. But if Jerry came to me and felt that, in his heart, I could lend some services that would help make them better, I would. I'd have a hard time not taking a good look at that."
Aikman previously revealed that his current contract with ESPN is set to conclude at the end of the 2026 NFL season.
The Hall of Fame quarterback spent his entire playing career on the Cowboys, suiting up for them from 1989 through 2000.
Aikman helped Dallas win three Super Bowl titles during his tenure under center and now sits at No. 3 on the franchise's all-time passing list.
While the 59-year-old could agree to a new contract with ESPN or look to continue his broadcasting career elsewhere, he may also be interested in joining an NFL front office.
Aikman served as a consultant for the Miami Dolphins during the 2026 offseason.
He helped the Dolphins search for a new head coach and general manager, per Maske.
Jones expressed confidence in Aikman potentially transitioning to a full-time front office role when speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
"Troy is very capable and he's so, really relatively speaking, he's in his youth as careers go," Jones said. "He's very capable of doing any one of a number of things, certainly anything to do with football. I don't know of any area, short of getting back out on the field, I don't know of any area that Troy Aikman wouldn't be qualified and competent to go into."
The Cowboys have failed to meet expectations to begin their 2026 campaign, sitting at just 2-4. If Dallas is unable to make the playoffs for the third consecutive season, Jones could look to make changes in the team's front office.
