Liverpool Very Keen To Sign Tangerine Charlie Adam: Should He Be a Priority ?

Kaustav BoseJan 21, 2011

Liverpool has evidently upped their tempo to land Blackpool's wonder man, Charlie Adam, a player who has kept moving higher up the rungs in rating ever since he signed for Blackpool in 2009. Whereas Liverpool started their massive plummeting since the last campaign, Blackpool and Adam began their glory ride.

Thus, the career graph of Charlie Adam in the past one and a half years has been the exact opposite of Liverpool's fate as a glorious football club. Now, with the Reds looking down the barrel even more, they seem very keen to forge a partnership with the Tangerine Captain to lift the club from any further gloom.

However, the question that still lingers around is whether or not Liverpool should go for Charlie full fledged. Reports seem to suggest that Blackpool is not very keen to sell off their star man this early, especially with so few days remaining, and are not at all interested in listening to offers any less than seven million GBP.

Apparently it seems, Liverpool won't cough up that amount in order to sign up what could be best described as a mid-field enforcement.

Now, as a very interesting study shows, Blackpool's No. 26 is an asset to the club, but his main prowess lies in passing the ball and creating chances for others. So is Liverpool trying to find a Xabi Alonso in Adam?

Whatever the case may be, Liverpool's Damien Commolli was last heard saying that Liverpool is in need of an offensive player who also has the pace that the team presently lacks. The statement couldn't have been put any more appropriately. Liverpool's football team has missed a speedster for quite a long time now, and a desperate enforcement is required on those grounds. But are any of the targets Liverpool has been linked to genuinely gifted with pace? Luis Suarez is a brilliant striker/second striker but not express. Warnock is no Bale, but is a better defender than those we have. And now Charlie Adam.

There seems to be no further queries into Charles N'Zogbia. Commolli admits Young is not in the market, and Payet talks have faded even faster than they came up. Amidst all the talks, the only player who has the talent and love for Liverpool, Arda Turan, has almost been forgotten.

So does all that make a case for Liverpool to go for a player whose greatest gift is something that is not exactly what Liverpool desperately need. Any keen observer of Liverpool can easily say that what the Reds missed besides the abysmal wing play is a genuine pace and final finishing touch. Although Liverpool is still trying to solve the later by bringing in Luis Suarez, the "offensive player with pace" seems to be out of sight.

I may be proved wrong by Charlie if he eventually leaves Bloomfield Road for Anfield and really lifts the club to the desired levels with his delightful passing, but the player has thus far been prone to losing possessions, and going by his physical stature, doesn't really promise any pace anyway.

Like previously mentioned, Liverpool's hunt for Charlie Adam should not be overemphasized unless it is, of course, at a good bargain. It is also important that it doesn't hamper the club's efforts to strengthen the more important issues, like the wings and a left back (assuming of course that Luis Suarez will be on his way to Anfield before January 2011 bids farewell).
