Tiger Woods: Why He Should Listen to Bubba Watson
Tiger Woods doesn't care what you think about him.
While that is a great quality to have for him right now with everything that has happened to him, perhaps Tiger should listen to some people.
Some want to make up excuses for Tiger, and others just want to hate. He isn't the same since his home life was in a wreck, but that's all in his head.
Blaise Pascal once said, “Man's greatness lies in his power of thought.” For Tiger, his thoughts are all over the place.
Tiger's opponents want him back. They know he makes the sport better, which in turn generates more revenue. Without Tiger, golf just wouldn't be as big.
His opponents also want him back, because they're competitors. They want to beat the very best. So when one of them calls him out, maybe Tiger ought to listen once and awhile.
Bubba Watson had a few words to say about Tigers at a press conference yesterday. Watson, who doesn't have any coaches, offered up some advice to the struggling golfer. Per PGA Tour:
"Sometimes I think some of the great players, they get too wrapped up in the mental part.
You know, I think—yeah, I'll just go ahead and say it. I think Tiger is going the wrong way. I think he's so mental right now with his swing. Just go out there and play golf. He used to hit shots, used to bomb it, used to do all that stuff. In 2000 and '97 I think he did pretty good. He won the Masters by 48 shots or whatever he won it by. But I think sometimes he gets carried away on that. And a lot of guys do.
When you start talking about other people trying to help you with your swing, look at this, look at that, I think they take a step back.
"
I know you've already heard what Bubba had to say about you, Tiger, but you really need to listen to him. It's not just him who feels that way. Your fans do as well. We just want you back.
Stop thinking and just play golf.
In the presser Bubba also says that he is still basically a kid. He just goes out there to have fun and play the game he loves.
Of course, Bubba most definitely had a different childhood than Tiger, but one thing they did have in common was just playing for fun. Sports are meant to be about having fun, and Tiger needs to just play.
The mental aspect of golf has taken its toll on Tiger, and it's obvious for everyone to see.
We may never get the old Tiger back, and that's okay. You have to accept the fact that he's a different person now. We're witnessing a new Tiger at the moment, and once he gets that first win, I think things will settle down for him, and a new Tiger will be born.
Tiger has tried changing things up since his breakdown, and nothing seems to be working. Golf is the one sport that messes with your head the most. I'm not saying it's going to be easy for Tiger, but maybe he should approach the game how he did when he was a kid.
Just play golf, Tiger, and have fun.
