NFL Rumors: Jim Harbaugh and the Latest on the Head Coaching Candidates

Frank FittipaldiJan 6, 2011

There are quite a few teams in the NFL that are in need of a new head coach.

A few head coaches have been fired and are searching for a new job, and coaches from college football are looking to make their way to the NFL.

Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh is the hottest candidate on the market. Harbaugh has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, and it was also reported that he was scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins are not pleased with current coach Tony Sparano, so it is likely that they will look elsewhere for a new head coach, and Harbaugh is their main guy.

Other teams in need of a coach are the Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and the Carolina Panthers.

The Cleveland Browns relieved Eric Mangini of his duties, and it is rumored that team president Mike Holmgren may take over as head coach.

The Oakland Raiders did not pick up Tom Cable's option for 2011, and it is likely that they will promote offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to head coach.

It has been reported that Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is the favorite to land the Panthers' head coaching job after the firing of John Fox.

Fox spent nine years with the Panthers and led them to their only Super Bowl in franchise history.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is searching for leaders, and he believes that Fewell possesses those qualities.

Fewell is known to be a great communicator and may be perfect for the job.

The Panthers' only other interview has come with Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.
